currently i have a pulsar and i dont know whether to go for heavy or kilowatt, im using iceburst brandish as sword
which line to go for
Polaris. I mean killowatt
"monsters which resist to elemental are beasts and gremlins, but pulsar line's bullets are too slow to hit teleport-able beasts and jampy gremlins, therefore there is no point to choose supernova instead of polaris since polaris deals shock too."
I did copy&paste, this is my other thread's sentence. I'm too lazy to type this again. :P
I use sentenza for gremlins(gremlin bonus med), toothpick for beasts. However I bring polaris to almost everywhere(except LD) for crowd control.
Supernova works to hit gremlins/beasts if you spam it, but I wouldn't.
I own a Supernova, and I use it pretty much all the time. Sure, things try to dodge it, but 4/5 times they end up not jumping far enough, or end up just walking into it anyway. Supernova works fine on Gremlins, not sure where people get that impression. It's because of the slow, large bullets that it makes it easier to hit them. Its also not like T3 Beasts are constantly teleporting either. They have a decently long recharge time on the teleport, so you will usually hit multiple with the explosion in mobs (they dodge bullets, not blasts). Also, honestly, its pretty stupid to use Polaris over Supernova just because of the shock. Supernova does more damage on 4/6 families, while Polaris is focused on elemental and the shock actually cancels the gun's knockback. People should use Polaris because it's better on two families and it shocks, but they shouldn't overlook Supernova, because Supernova is just a very good gun in general with more consistent knockback and damage.
+1 for you Dukeplatypus, you made a very good point of it, as a gunner myself i died a considerable amount of times between 2 or more monsters due to the shock of the Polaris.
And yes DAT KNOCKBACK!
"" ":::supernova::-monsters which resist to elemental are beasts and gremlins(and lit oilers/toxoils, but that's been forgotten), but pulsar line's bullets are too slow to hit teleport-able beasts and jumpy gremlins, therefore there is no point to choose supernova instead of polaris since polaris deals shock(which supercharge quicksilvers) too."
Supernova actually has more crowd control, due to shock stopping movement, so polaris doesn't have guaranteed knockback. Also, it's safer where quicksilvers are involved, and in C42, it doesn't get weakened by the toxoils catching fire ""
Yep, I just copypasted from my response to your post, Eclaium
@OP go heavy pulsar if you just keep your current sword, so you deal more damage. However, I'd also say get a shadow weapon, like acheron, or umbra driver
Do you use pulsar in C42? I mean i use my Polaris for gun puppies and jelly tower which dont resist to elemental in C42. And those poison jellies "teleport" like beasts...i dont think there is crowd control by polaris in C42, they just "teleport" as soon as we push them back.
Also quicksilvers charge on their own anyways...usually there are shock traps on the floor when there are quicksilver.
Anyways why you no use other gun to kill them..oilers
AND can you help me understand why most people choose polaris rather than supernova? It seems like there are many supernova users on this thread..but I dont see people actually use supernova in game. Most of them use polaris, in LoA, C42, HoI, FSC...and in LD.
I bring Supernova to C42, hell I bring it to most anything. Spamming Pulsar tends to be the safest way to go there. I mean, it's not like polyps are going to dodge you. Nothing else can touch you.
They don't teleport, they dash, which means they can still be pushed back by supernova/Polaris mid-dash. Trust me. I've done it.
And you can go and push them into a corner, where your teammates acherons/GFs/Sententzas/Umbras/DR/SSB/DDMB can kill them
Most people go Polaris because they see it in LD, or because in-game, they ask, and all the "pros" say polaris
Quicksilvers charge on their own, yes. But they'll get shocked twice as much if you use polaris, and with supernova, you can corner them away from shock traps
And like Dukeplatypus, I take my supernova to most places, and more recently, sold off a gigawatt pulsar I had, because I found supernova to be generally more useful
I've never used Supernova, so I'm glad to hear testimonials. Thanks, Supernova fans.
Eclaium, people like Polaris over Supernova for two reasons. (A) It shocks. (B) It does elemental rather than normal damage. People who understand the damage rules of Spiral Knights tend to favor a mix of non-normal damage. Elemental damage is especially valuable in a gun, because guns are highly effective against turrets, and 2/3 of turrets are vulnerable to elemental damage (and the other 1/3 is neutral to it).
Of course, damage output is not the only goal you should have in optimizing your loadout. I agree with Dukeplatypus (if I understand him correctly) that Polaris and Supernova are first and foremost crowd-control weapons, rather than damage weapons. And Warriorrogue rightly points out that shock is not always a good thing, because of quicksilvers and knockback-canceling.
Supernova or Valiance would be the best choice. I would choose Valiance but its your choice
Don't go Polaris. It's considered one of the most annoying weapons due to the large blue particles, as well as the shock/knockback combo.
Supernova, on the other hand, is more tolerable as its particles aren't as obtrusive and it lacks a shock effect.
Just don't spam it, whatever you do. Please, please, do not spam it. Use it to tactically move enemies about, or to damage them at times that they won't move much, but don't spam it everywhere.
Totally agreed. Everytime I do FSC the majority of my team mates just spam the Polaris. Its as bad as spamming the Nitronome in my opinion. Only with slightly smaller explosions and 2 times as fast. Can't see a thing when people use it. But its still okay for soloing I guess. I still prefer the valiance over the supernova (even though I have neither of them XD)
Read the wiki page "Damage", if you haven't already, to learn the monsters' vulnerabilities and resistances. Your ideal loadout would feature two (or all three) non-normal damage types. Then you could deal huge damage to most (or all) monsters, and you'd never be dealing low damage.
Given that you have an elemental sword, you don't really want an elemental gun. Then you'd be very weak against gremlins and beasts (and not great against slimes and fiends either). So go for the normal damage.
A better long-term plan is to get another sword --- piercing or shadow --- and to have an elemental gun. See here for more detail.
Another better long-term plan is to get a third weapon slot. If you're playing regularly, then they're worth it. Then you can carry an elemental sword, an elemental gun, and either a piercing sword or a shadow sword. Or gun. Or bomb, really.
