Shield to drop items.

Ever wondered why we can't just put down items we pick up? I think it would be nice to have it so that you can shield to drop an item. Either your knight would animate dropping it, like when you put down a key, or it would just fall on the ground as you shield. This has a few uses:

  • Just pulled out a vial and don't want to throw it? Just shield.
  • If this applies to other items, it could be a quicker way to put items down and shield. You could also then put down water/fire balls.
  • You could easily put an item down. If you are using a gamepad then you don't need to reach to the mouse to drop that vial.
  • To go a little further, using a instant use item (Capsules and the Mecha Knight Kit) while shielding would just drop it.

If someone drops their items without trying, there should be an option for it at the bottom of the controls list, like the AA on/off switch. I think this would be a nice feature, IMO.

What if, instead of dropping

What if, instead of dropping the item, you just put it away?
i.e. you've got a vial out, shield and the vial gets put away before you can throw it.
Of course there's going to be some limitations, when you "throw" a vial, it gets thrown; once the use animation gets to a certain point when you're activating a pill/kit, it gets used whether you want it to or not. And as for environmental objects, I guess they get dropped right where you're pointing them when you pressed the "shield" button.

^ This would be better.

I don't wanna accidentally drop a vial when I shield from enemy attacks only for someone else to pick it up.

I'd also like to see it possible to cancel a charge with shielding. These all make the game easier though, unfortunately. Also, you should still be able to drop an item if your cloak/booster is broken.

I wouldn't. I'm one to hold the shield button down just as I release my charge as part of Shield Cancelling. The Divine Avenger would certainly suffer from it, as that sword almost NEEDS Shield Cancelling. The charge is bad enough too - what with the beams detonating prematurely when your Knight's against a wall.

I can see it now - Knights wasting charge attacks everywhere and dying a lot more often.

that wouldn't apply if you've already released the charge. I'd be for it especially since if the game lags just as I shield cancel after an attack, it thinks I want to charge even though I'm not holding the button down.

Lag

I can still see lag-related problems occuring even if it didn't apply to released charges.

Some of you haven't noticed that you could turn off the drop-item-w/shield, right?

I did notice. But then, the feature might as well not be there.
+1 to what Ghret suggested, being able to put vials away after selecting them.
As to the original idea, I really can't see myself using it. (Sorry!)

I'd be very grateful for this feature.

Ghret's suggestion would work, too.
