I am incredibly new to this game but every time i try to do the very first mission (where rhendon gives you the bomb) it just says i dont have enough energy. is this a bug as i have only just started and haven't used any energy as yet. Any help would be much appreciated thanks in advance.

Yes, this is a bug.
Read the wiki page "Energy". Energy is what lets you play the game.
You say that you haven't used energy. Are you sure? What are the numbers in the lower-right corner of your screen? The top one is crystal energy (CE), and the bottom one is mist energy (ME). Every day, you slowly accumulate 100 ME for free. If you're out of energy, then you have to wait a few hours, to get some more.
Are you playing multiple knights on the same account? They all share the same ME stream.
