Reasons why HOUSES should never be suggested or added to the game. NEVER!

Why can't we have houses?

Well it's beacuse houses are completely useless and it's the same as guild halls. For those who are suggesting it need to play the game more often and join a guild. You will see that it will be the same as guild halls. Houses are useless, like what I said.

What if we want to put furniture?

Guild hall updates. It will feature a new area for your own guild, and add furniture to the guild hall. Also expanded areas will allow more space for more furniture.

But where the hell will we sleep in?

We would sleep on the cold ground, and weather doesn't occur in Haven. Besides, we sleep by standing up closing our eyes.

More questions and answers coming soon to this "NO HOUSING THREADS!"

What if houses were tied to guild halls, and used the same system? As long as houses were tied in (and not, as you say, 'the same as guild halls'), I wouldn't mind them at all. Per say I did not enjoy my guild hall's design, but still wanted to stay in the guild that I'm in because that's where all of my friends are. I'd be forced to either abandon an aspect of a game, or ditch my friends, and we can all agree that that isn't a nice decision to make. There is the fact that it might draw away from a collaborate effort to build guild halls, but I think that peer pressure and extra functionality put into guild halls will prevent this to a large extent.

"completely useless" and "its the same as guild halls" is kind of a contradiction; we're getting guild halls which have some functionality to them that is designed for guilds; why shouldn't guildless players get to try out some of these functions, and why do they exist if they are "pointless" for guilds? Even if some functions; E.G. A guild bank wouldn't work for them, they should still be able to build an epeen for themselves out of crowns that they can show off to impress the other knights.

I disagree

No features should ever, ever, ever be exclusive to guilds. What if I want to be a part of a guild, but also have my own personal house? All you've said is that they are useless, but they have the same purpose as guildhalls - let you form a meeting with a select group of people. A PRIVATE one. Larger than eight people. I don't want to have to create a separate guild for that (even if I and my friends already have some troll guilds I could use). Also, customization is nice, and lets you build a personal space without having to mess up your guildies' space.

I disagree..with your disagreement.

"No features should ever, ever, ever be exclusive to guilds."

Uh..the Guild Hall already is. So is an extended friends list, and GvG LD. I would list more, but those are the only things that guilds can actually do.

@Fehzor:

"why do they exist if they are "pointless" for guilds?"

Guild Halls are pointless as it stands. I wonder why they exist too.

@sev yeah, and I'm against all those things being exclusive. You also get guildchat.

@addisond:

If there were nothing exclusive to Guilds, nobody would use them. They have a purpose, though at the moment there hardly is one.

If you want to be a hermit and refuse to join a guild, that's nobody else's problem.

I am in a guild - ITJ. Guilds' purpose is to be a community. Giving guilds exclusive features just makes people who aren't in a guild or want to do something outside of their guild jump through a bunch of hoops.

@Addisond:

*sigh* If you want Guilds to be ever-so-boring and only be a chatroom, that's your opinion I guess.

I'd prefer actually being able to do something with other guildmates besides talk.

Well liquids

Have I blathered about Wakfu today yet?

Doing it anyway.

This is what Wakfu has for guilds in summary:

  • Members are allowed to give 0-70% of leveling and/or crafting (crafting and gathering professions such as reaping wheat then baking into bread or crafting equipment to use) to level the guild
  • Guild level is averaged between combat and profession (crafting and gathering) levels
  • Upon creation the guild creator selects a guild emblem from many options (the icon and background are both optional and can be colored custom on various kinds of palettes)
  • As the guild levels up new features are unlocked (guild uniform [see below], guild bank, guild action [cosmetic, has no effect on gameplay])
  • Guild uniform grants bonuses to all members when used (can choose between passive and costume versions, the costume version is colored based on the guild emblem but the model is not customizable; more bonuses are unlocked as the guild levels including larger guild bank space)
  • Customizable guild ranks (you can change rank names, rights certain ranks have, make completely new ranks and change their rights; there can only be one guild master with all rights, there is always a basic member rank with no rights but the name of this rank can be modified)
  • Specifics

Then we have an amazing chat box system which lets you toggle which channels are active, have multiple chat tabs with different active channels on; then again, it would be weird to have all of this brought to Spiral Knights. Wakfu was designed to have a community while Spiral Knights is more about knowing only a few people. There are also a lot more support roles available in Wakfu which are just as vital if not more so than offense based characters, especially while working with others; for example, a medic (Eniripsa; fire and water element skills can heal) teamed up with an archer (Cra) and a fire Rogue (able to create defensive firewalls which damages anything that enters the area of effect; these bombs can be manipulated by many skills of this class) and all of them sit in one corner. If anything runs away, arrows. If they get close, firewall; then the Rogue can just throw them back into it if they get too close. The reason why it works there is because they have a class system while Spiral Knights lets you do whatever you want with no penalties to variation or specification. If other "classes" (bomber, 'guardian'/tank, etc.) were more viable there would be more necessity for playing in parties but there are more advantages to solo than work with other people still. That means a lot of weapon nerfs (mostly for swords), some armor buffs (defense based stuff), and maybe some offense armor nerfs (lowering defenses and/or adding some status weakness on the three weapon specialist lines. Even if this is my third or so time repeating this.

Now goodnight and let me sleep. That includes the walruses in my closet playing poker.

@Luguiru:

You sure took the privilege of writing an essay for us, lol.

I didn't say we had to have a ton of benefits, especially not involving production rate so to speak, or combat buffs.
But customization like a better Guild Hall and your customizable guild ranks bullet would be nice.

Guilds aren't just a chatroom - they are a group of people that can do anything they want to do in the game together. They use their chat to organize runs, sell items, and sign up for LD at the same time so they can take out their anger on the people who screwed up their SL run.

Honestly, just about all I do in SK is talk, but that's another point...

"Honestly, just about all I do in SK is talk, but that's another point..."

Well, now you know why I quit SK.

And, I can group with anyone in the game, not just guildies. I could whisper people and have the same kind of cooperation that you can have with guildies, and trade chat. There's nothing special about guilds, it's just an extended friends list. Honestly the only thing they have is GvG, everything else can be done without being in a guild. I could write names down on a piece of paper and it'd work just as well as a guild.

Item storage.

The only use I could see for houses at the moment is for item storage or showing off your e-peen to your friends by displaying your stuff.

Otherwise I'd reckon houses would be a useless feature.

...yes, and that's how I want it: guilds are just a convenient way to create a group.

No they aren't homeless.

If we did not find Haven, we would be homeless
Even with groups, we would be a homeless group
Besides, we are in a safe town. Guild-less people would be considered as lone wolfs or something

Naaaaaahhhhhh, i think there homeless.
Clint Eastwood is a lone wolf.
Robots are not lone wolfs because wolves are mammals.

Quick Question: where do guildless ppl sleep? with snipes? does cardboard even exist? is SK set in a future where theres no humanoids like Star Wars? why did i say quick question, when theres more than a quick question?

We don't need houses, I can survive outside

Guild members sleep in their guild halls on the cold ground.
Homeless members sleep on the ground of Haven, clockworks and outside of Haven.
I sleep on people

@Severage

Obviously, guild hall functionality is non existent right now. My post predicts that the devs will go through with their promises regarding guild hall updates, which I believe they will in the near future.
