Should I craft autoguns until I get some UV's or craft the blitz and buy UV tickets?

depends on which UVs you want
If you just want any UV, then buy it from Punch. For 20,000 crowns, you are guaranteed to get some kind of UV. Of course, it may not be one that you want. If you want a specific UV, then it is cheaper to mass-craft (especially if you have alternate accounts with their own ME streams) or just buy the UV on the Auction House.
For example, suppose that you want a Blitz Needle with CTR+3 or CTR+4. Our best data suggest that Punch will give you CTR about 1/8 of the time, and will give you +3 or +4 maybe 1/8 of the time. So you expect to try Punch 64 times, to get that UV you want. That's an expected cost of 1,280,000 crowns. If you see the UV you want on the Auction House for less than that, then maybe you should just buy it. Our best data suggest that crafting yields a UV about 1/10 of the time. With the 1/8 and 1/8 from above, you expect to craft 640 Autoguns before you get the UV you want. Depending on how time and ME you have, this may be cheaper, especially since you can sell the extra Autoguns to recoup some of your cost.

If you plan to use what will
If you plan to use what will eventually become your Blitz Needle for casual use in the Clockworks, I suggest that you forget about Unique Variants until you are somewhat more established and familiar with the game before you start heavily investing. Who knows? You may even get the UV you wanted while upgrading it. If you really must optimize your Autogun as soon as possible for whatever your reasons, I recommend acquiring the Autogun 2* Recipe and Crafting them solely with Mist Energy (as opposed to Crystal Energy) and selling the ones you don't care for.
