This is a frequently asked question. Please search the forums, for immediate answers to such questions. Or, you can just go back a little way in the Arsenal forum thread list, to see at least one recent thread with this very title. My own answer is here.

I have a Wild Hunting Blade

I have a Wild Hunting Blade myself and I have to say that I love it. Especially the charge on Vanaduke's mask. But mainly for the golden, red-eyed, phantasmal wolvers which spawn from its strikes. Even though the Dread Venom Striker has the obvious advantage of causing poison, the WHB's charge can interrupt attacks while a DVS's can't. The WHB will also actually match the colour scheme of your other weapons and vog set, unlike the DVS which is green. :P It's also pretty good verses jellies, I seriously wish that it spawned golden jellies instead and had a damage bonus against jellies since beasts are extremely weak. Well, that's my opinion, but you might want to get the DVS since the poison's more useful than the damage bonus against beasts. If you want I'll demonstrate my WHB in a level.

Wild Hunting Blade, because you're worth it. =D

it is interesting

It is interesting, how users of WHB really love this sword. It is also interesting, how much of their love is due to the cosmetics. Three Rings, you've hit a home run in the visual design of this weapon. Now please improve its gameplay or damage, to put it closer to the wildly-more-powerful piercing swords or something.

For some reason, my WHB interrupts attacks A LOT more often than other people's DVS.

Glad to have helped. Totally

Glad to have helped. Totally agree with you, design does outweigh power. :P

If design outwieghed power

If design outwieghed power than way more people would use Antigua line and Magnus line

If only you knew just how many people use those lines. And use them effectively, at that.

lots of people do use the Antigua lines

Lots of people do use Argent Peacemaker and Sentenza, even though in my opinion they are wretchedly ugly. They're easy to use and fairly powerful.

I suspect that Callahan is at least as popular as Wild Hunting Blade. At least it actually has a niche to fill (shooting fiends while moving).

The high DPS of the sword gives it enough power to take things down before poison is necessary.. unless you're fighting something like a giant lichen, in which case the poison will be very helpful. The beast bonus means that you can use it to take on beasts with a sword... even when you're gunning. And like I always say- you can kill turrets with a weapon made to fight beasts.

@Chalez

Magnus lines are, while viable, in need of a buff. They cannot begin to compete with the autogun and blaster lines, and are in my eyes, tied with the alchemers when it comes to taking out fiends.

Argent peacemaker and Sentenza are (again, IMO, yes, everything I say is opinionated) perfectly balanced, and tons of people use them.

really?

The high DPS of the sword

Are we still talking about WHB? Its DPS is worse than specialized weapons and about as good as other normal weapons. It's not terrible, but I wouldn't really call it "high".

oh I see now...?

My response above applies to both DVS and WHB. They both have middling DPS.

I guess Fehzor's point was that poison, as a status in general, is not super-useful against small enemies, because they die before it matters much? I guess I could go along with that, except maybe for mass-poisoning using Venom Veiler, which is useful. The same could be said for curse.

To put it better-

Compared to the time it takes to take down an enemy, they have high DPS. For instance, it may take you like 5 minutes to kill a group of enemies with voltaic tempest; it will take you like under 20 seconds or so to do so with a 5* cutter line, provided that you are using it properly (cornering the enemy and beating it senseless.)

If you can just corner the enemy and beat it to death, then why bother poisoning them at all? It's more of a graphic effect than anything.

No, they don't have "high DPS" as in "ONE HIT KO EVERYTHING" like the blitz needle.

@ all you stupid [knights]

I never said they were bad, I actually love them. That doesn't mean that the general population of SK does as well.

???

But that is exactly what you were wrong about. The Antigua lines are absurdly popular. I've seen at least one in every random run. Callahan (a Magnus line) is also actually quite popular among pure gunners.

If anything, you'd be closer to right if you'd been claiming that they're bad rather than unpopular.

P.S. Enjoy your report.

Just a thought~
