Now, Spiral Knights lacks a LOT of things, but... What about the not-so-obvious things that most gamers overlook? We'll just see what is missing, from my point of view.
1. Wounded knight animation
In most RPGs, MMO or not, your character(s) will enter an animation to show they are wounded heavily. Why does the same system not exist in Spiral Knights? No one really knows aside from the developers, but let's get into detail.
The knight, once hitting a pre-calculated amount of HP/MaxHP (This can be 1/4th, 1/3rd, adjustable by player, etc.), will begin "breathing heavily" as one would not notice on a knight at all, and when charging, would appear to shake a lot more while holding the charge.
Pros:
A way to know your knight is wounded regardless of focus
Cons:
Trivial to add, may not be worth the time sunk into it.
There are two HP bars, one on the left side of the screen (For party HP) and one at the bottom (Player HP)
2. Music player
Sometimes the music just doesn't fit the mood, so why can't we pick what SK track we want to use in-game while we play?
Self explanatory, the player would be in the options section, under its own tab, where one could simply select the track (Placed in the music directory, of course) they desire to play, and it will play until a level change or event occurs (Could be a toggle-able option)
Pros:
A way to get the mood set just right for your adventures.
Cuts down on processes eating up CPU and RAM (Considering to do this outside of SK, you'd have to play the music via other sources)
Cons:
Not a wide variety of music to select from.
Could be code-costly, not worth the effort in the long run.
3. Proper gamepad detection.
We've all been there at one point or another: We accidentally unplug our controllers, or the batteries go dead, etc. and we have to restart Spiral Knights just to get it to work.
This is more tech-savvy, but a way to fix this issue would be to simply have the option to "Detect Gamepad" in options, so that we don't have to restart to get our gamepads working once more... Especially right in the middle of a Shadow Lair or boss run!
Pros:
Fixes issues most players have with gamepads
Cons:
May take a while to code in, may not be worth the effort
Can glitch out if not properly written
If Spiral Knights had these little yet large things, then it would be a more enjoyable game for all, function wise.
And with that, may your posts/comments have as much honesty as the light of day.
"Wounded knight animation"
Other games may have it, but it would just be a cosmetic distraction with no fruit for the fight; Three Rings gets nothing out of it and we get something not many people would care about.
When your health is low you can see your bars at the bottom of your screen; not as a tiny little bar somewhere in the corner, but very visible and in the center.
"Music player"
Mute, play music from somewhere else. If running Youtube with Spiral Knights open is too strenuous you should make some adjustments. You could also
"Proper gamepad detection"
That should probably go here.
