5* Gunslinger armor I should be aiming for?

I'm a bit confused about which should I go for. Let me spread some facts across:

1.) Usually solo FSC, danger missions, and clockworks in general.
2.) Can't cooperate well with a full party in SL, FSC, or anywhere that involves tight spaces as a swordy.
3.) Experienced swordy
4.) Experienced bomber
5.) Barely learning alchemer switching and that gun shield cancel thing.

Flat out, as far as weapons go, there's no concerns. I plan on using the recommended. Except, what armor am I supposed to be using? I'm looking for the highest dps, so should I aim for the Nameless ASI or Shadowsun damage bonus? Note: this is for all-around gunning use.

go for damage (Shadowsun), and use a Swiftstrike Buckler for ASI.
Although you can use two gun damage trinkets and that frees up one of your armor choices for something defensive depending on the situation.

Seerus + Shadowsun

If you're not Blitzing, full Shadowsun (agree with Flowchart). If you are Blitzing--or if you really like the charge on some other gun--swap in the Perfect Mask of Seerus.

You could also get a Nameless chest piece if you're worried about ele levels. (You should not have problem with piercing enemies, so no need for Justifier.)

Processing Thoughts of You Always

Shadowsun, (almost) always. ASI is much easier to acquire than all-round damage.
Getting a PMoS and a couple of damage trinkies would be ideal for FSC runs, though, given it has fire and shock resist as well as elemental defence and a CTR/ASI bonus for a needle-line gun.

agree

I agree with the others here, particularly with Aureate's point that ASI is much easier to acquire than all-around damage bonus. This makes Shadowsun (and Skolver, and Mad Bomber, etc.) especially valuable offensively. You should first achieve these baseline bonuses:
* damage+6 from three of your four armors and trinkets
* ASI+3 from Swiftstrike Buckler
* CTR+2 from heat level 10
To fill out the rest of your CTR and ASI, you still have another armor or trinket, and you still have UVs. Exactly how you do this boils down to (A) how rich you are, (B) whether you prefer regular or charge attacks, and (C) whether you need any particular protection out of your armor.

The major undead areas (FSC/LoA) have untyped enemies as well (Vanaduke/Almirian Crusaders), so it's better to go for the all-around gun damage to affect them. (Yeah Deadshot has ASI as well, but like was already said, it's easier to get elsewhere)

It's true only poison defense isn't that great, but attacking from range means you won't be hit by most statuses, but if necessary other equipment like Perfect Mask of Seerus will help with some of the others.

exactly

I agree with Flowchart. Deadshot's not bad at all, but its ASI is only +1. Its main bonus is monster-specific. That puts it in the same category as Deadly Virulisk, etc. You want armors that give bigger bonuses.

You mean Max?

There's no VH.

Well, you could turn it into Vog or Snarby and use it for UFSC. Or you could start using Faust charges. Not very efficient, but quite fun. :P

My general purpose gunner

My general purpose gunner loadout is as follows:

Seerus Mask
Shadowsun Slicker
Swiftstrike buckler
2 elite trueshots

max damage, VH ctr and asi, and armour and resistance to the most painful things in the game.

If you cant get a seerus mask get a shadowsun stetson and a ctr trinket instead. The swiftstrike buckler isnt all that important either until you get fast enough with shooting that you reach the physical speed limit and need the asi to get more damage.

If you mostly do fsc then try to get fire res uvs on your armour, or if you want a more general purpose set try to get freeze to counter freeze weakness seerus mask has.

Just make sure you have max damage because guns are great fun when u have it and kinda frustrating when you dont. :)

Something I've noticed, a couple a gunners I know run:

Shadowsun Stetson
Nameless/Justifier
Swiftstrike
2x Trueshot/1x Trueshot, 1x CTR trinket

Why would that be? I've seen it multiple times and wondered if it works just as well as the sets you all have recommended. Keep in mind these are used in conjunction with alchemers and other charge shot guns.
