Some forum improvements

There are lots of things the forums need to get improved.

Pages

When I look in a huge, piece of thread, there are lots of pages and I would like to go to the end. The problem is, you can go only in limited numbers of pages. So why can you just put a new function in searching other pages. If there are like 69 pages, how can you reach the end? Not including the instant click in the general forums. So just put a box where you can type the page. If you put a huge number like 3454, it won't work. It will just stop at 34.

The search bar function

Sometimes, the search bar function takes forever. It might not even be reliable. So if I search up my own thread "Post some guild hall furniture", it will show thousands of comments that are related to the words. There are a bunch of pages. So why can you make 2 sections that when you search, you will be dragged to a section. Either threads or comments.

Instant Replying

Why can't we have instant replying instead of going like this (@Oatmonster)? So there would be a reply button under his name, and it would put @oatmonster in a strong font.

Why not add some designs in the forums?

Right now, as you look in the regular forums, you will see a bunch of text with no font or design. It's in blue, basic text, and I'm wonder if we can put some designs on it. Not a huge one, but big. So just add maybe some bubble text to replace the title. No, the threads don't count. Only the titles in the forums like suggestions, gremlin chatter, etc... You can also maybe add some glowing lines to replace the box lines. Not all of it though.

Instant +1/-1

We should have a bar somewhere near the comments box. If you would like to rate a suggestion, you can go to the number box and click the +1 button. You can click the -1 button too. Then you can add your comment. You can leave it blank, or write your feedback. This would make it easier to stop pressing the numbers, plus and minus signs.

Also you can see how much likes and dislikes there are in a thread. So we can add a new category called "Ratings". It should have a thumb that goes up and goes down. It will indicate how much dislikes and likes the thread has recieved. It will have a green or/and red neon color on it. This might look like youtube, but it's at a thread.

Quoting

I see other forums have quote bubbles. Most of the people use quote bubbles in the other gaming forums. So we should be able to have a quoting bubble. We can even have the name of the person that is being mentioned. More details coming up soon

Well that's all I have for now. Please show your feedback in the comments below and I'll reply. Please don't be too negative in your feedback. Try to make it positive and I'll reply.

Thanks!

"If there are like 69 pages, how can you reach the end?"
What? There's always a link to last page next to the numbers.

"So just put a box where you can type the page."
You can go to a specific page by manually writing it in the adress bar of the browser.

See those links:
http://forums.spiralknights.com/es/node/53120?page=1
http://forums.spiralknights.com/es/node/53120?page=2

Notice how both end with "page=#" No need for a box

I will be more specific

If there are 69 pages, and you want to be at the 50th page, then that's what the question asks right here.

It might not be needed, but just to get an easier time

It would be really easy to implement a Google (domain) search. For now that's what I use anyway.

Instant replying isn't necessary.

Pages can be entered manually via address, but it'd be easier to have a longer list of pages/a "type in your page" button.

I like having the font be set to default because it lets me use the font that's set on my browser, which I find easy to read. Simple is best, though I like having an image of the clockworks in the background.

Suggestion ratings would be helpful in some ways and harmful in others. Suggestions are often intended to be an editing process with lots of discussion, so a good but incomplete suggestion could get -1s that last forever and lead to no one paying attention. However, it'd be useful to get rid of all the "I have a suggestion" threads that ask for the elimination of energy.

I actually kind of like the way the forums look right now. Sure it's options are rather limited, but it looks a lot more proffessional than most other forums. A better/faster search function would be great though.

I agree with having the search bar to be improved. Right now it's slow and not reliable.

I don't know much about this type of thing but don't we not have those features because they use Drupal or something?

You are experiencing a PICNIC ERROR!

Being I manage my guild's forums, I know somethings about forums. I think if they used phpBB, then they could have way more flexibility. The search is fast, and many of the things you are talking about comes with phpBB.

Processing Thoughts of You Always

Another issue with forums; sometimes you wish to quote someone's post, but the quote numbers to link to are not always logical.

how about?

how about a way that stores the link of the thread u posted on as a form of cookie that is tored on ur computer and also aligned the your characters account on spiral knights website. that way when there will be a function that you can clik to to go you account, where you can create your forum avatar, next to it would be link which has stored all thread u have posted on or created. they wil be listed from recent to oldest, so we can have an easier way to review them.

To be honest, I think it might not go well

For the threads you store, it might obviously be in the front page of a category. Maybe users would keep the threads in their inventory and it would cause others to necro ideas so they don't have to go back to old pages for it

LOL Blandaxt.

Many forum systems allow tracking of threads you've created or posted on. None of them use the nonsensical system you propose (cookies??).

well of course

a lot of necroing is expected, but this idea still allows users to be able to better track the threads they posted on and the ones they create.

why

why would i have to compensate for the forum, when the forum could improve. having a clutter of links on my favorites is not something i desire. im not sure other players woud like that either.

We already have a feature on the internet though

We don't need 2 features at the same time
