I have been playing Spiral Knights for nearly 6 months with java 6 (Apple provides their own java) on an iMac desktop. That was until two weeks ago when Apple has decided to remove/disable java 6, forcing all Mac users to rely on java 7.
After installing Oracle's java 7 (1.7.0_09) on my iMac OS X 10.7.5, Spiral Knights refuses to launch in Safari browser.
I went to other gaming websites that require java to run, and they work fine. Therefore, I know java isn't the problem, at least with other games.
I access Spiral Knights thru Kongregate. When I click on PLAY NOW button, the game checks for the latest patch, and upon ensuring that I have the latest patch installed, it then requests the user for a permission to launch the game something along the line of :
This applet was signed by "Three Rings Design, Inc.," and authenticated by ... blah blah blah. Do you trust this certificate?
Then I am supposed to click on Trust/Accept. But I no longer see such window appear.
Thinking perhaps Safari's pop-up blocker was the culprit, I disabled it and tried launching the game again. Again, no luck.
Not to give up so easily, I tried accessing Spiral Knights thru http://www.spiralknights.com rather than Kongregate. Same symptoms; still unable to launch the game.
Then I deleted everything I had under ~/Library/Application Support/spiral/ and reinstalled the game files. Again, the game won't launch.
So ... I am a loss. It seems I can't access the game anymore.
Any ideas? I am open to suggestions...
p.s. I know I am not the only Mac user in the game. So surely, I can't be the only one with this problem.
After reading thru numerous posts in the forum, it appears that all Mac users who have updated their browser in the mid October, thus effectively using Java 7, are unable to launch Spiral Knights thru Kongregate nor spiralknights.com. As for Steam, well... they've always been problematic.
