In the it clearly states:
" reproduce, distribute, publicly display or perform, translate, modify, adapt, create derivative works from, deconstruct, reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble in any manner Spiral Knights or any portion thereof, including but not limited to any character, graphic, associated software or proprietary communications protocol used by the software or any utilities, applications, emulators or tools derived therefrom; "

So here is the situation: A friend of mine managed to take out the translations from Spiral Knights Taiwan client and is attempting to use the translations because he can't understand English and still wants to play on our server. He seems to be fine and is willing to take his own risk but I'm anxious and don't want to see a friend getting banned. So here are some points:
1. The translations are official and is made by Gamecyber, the HK company running Spiral Knights in Asia. (And yes the translations suck)
2. It is pretty easy, just some copying pasting, but it's against the ToS.
3. But such translations brings no harm at all, Spiral Knights isn't complicated and one should be able to pick up the easy English in it.
4. He did not decompose/reassemble/decompile the client, the translations are located in a specific directory that everyone can has access to.

Also, it states you can not "Modify" game files, which means reskinning and 'texture packs' aren't allowed.

modify any files or use any game hacking/altering/cheating software or tools, including scripting or macroing software, or attempt to disassemble the game client and/or decipher the data transmissions between Spiral Knights' client and server. These activities will result in immediate termination of the Player's Account and may subject you to civil and/or criminal liability.

So any suggestions?

This falls deep in a legal

This falls deep in a legal grey area. I would bring this up directly with OOO rather than posting it in these forums. None of anything posted by other knights in the forums should be considered an official/legal response, including my own posts.

Okay, now that the disclaimer has been posted:

Neither you nor your friend translated anything, so that bit likely doesn't apply to you.

As for modifying, both pieces are the SK client, they just happen to be different versions of the same, and does not affect anything other than the ability of your friend to be able to use the client as provided. As such, it could potentially be slipped in under the same, if any, leniencies afforded to those with vision or hearing problems.

But of course, you should get OOO's and Sega's final decision on this. The legalese contained in the license exists to cover any liabilities on OOO's and Sega's part, but I cannot see how this would be denied based on that alone.

As of now, OOO doesnt have a way to know what you're doing with the client, so if he keeps it to himself....

For example, if you modify a texture you'll be able to play with it and use it in game without trouble. You'll only get banned if you post a screenshot or brag about it on forums.

It's a delicate do-it-on-your-own-risk situation.
