There isn't really any best armor.

What's your playstyle with weapons?

Depending on which one, you should choose the wolver line, the gunslinger line, or the demo line.
So if you're gonna choose the wolver line, I'd probubly say Vog Cub. Damage up? Well, what's the point if you can't even manage to hit anyone, because they're far too fast for you. Plus, you need faster recovery time, so you don't get caught in the end of your sword combo.

If you are into bombs, choose Volcanic or Mad Bomber. Those are the only two with charge bonuses, and you can even do a mix if you want to.
Mad bomber has a medium charge bonus and a medium damage bonus for bombs. But you are a little more vulnerable to status effects. Volcanic has medium charge bonus with some good fire resistance.

I'm not very familiar with gunslinger gear, though.

Kinda stupid thing to say, don't you think? It didn't help at all, as there are 3 5* wolver types to choose from.

Ask an incredibly vague question, get an incredibly vague answer. He never said what his plans were or what his intentions or playstyles were like, nor that he'd even looked at the three options and was asking our opinion. Simply what to do next. Next step; upgrade.

I don't want to have to ask every question every time to give help, s'nice to know when someone asking for advice is actually put thought into what they're asking for, especially when the post starts with the notorious question "what's best?"

I think that you should ditch it and go for a loadout of one piece deadly virulisk and one piece fallen.
