Okay, I'm just asking this because I know I want this person to get a good set.

I've invited someone to play the game and they like the game so far, as far as I can tell he likes swords, guns and bombs.

What should he work for?

I mean a set. Armor, weapons, helm and shield.

Also, Bopp, complete freedom here, but please let there be more bombers in the world of spiral!

bombs and handguns

Hey, I like the bombs. Also I love the guns --- particularly charging alchemers. Delightful. :)

Your friend likes swords, guns, and bombs? So he likes all aspects of the game equally? That's not much to go on actually.

In general, it's more important to try a variety of weapons, than to try a variety of armors, because weapons strongly influence your play style, whereas most armor is boring. So get him trying a piercing sword, a Brandish (especially charging), and a Sealed Sword (or Troika, if Sealed is too far away). Get him trying an alchemer, an Autogun, and an Antigua. Get him trying a fast damage bomb (Blast Bomb or Spine Cone) and a haze-style bomb.

I'd advise him to wait on committing to a lot of different armors. But he could start working on one piece each of sworder, gunner, and bomber armor?

Just a forewarning, bombs are

Just a forewarning, bombs are the most dependent on passive bonuses from armor. A sword or gun is usually adequate even with no buffs, but a bomb with no CTR is barely worth using. However they WILL gain a small amount of CTR as they level up.

If you can afford the materials and crowns, it's a good idea to use mist energy and craft the same 2* bomb multiple times in hopes of a CTR UV or at the very least some kind of damage bonus.

Finally, IMO, it's best to not be locked to one weapon type. Carry a sword AND a bomb, or if you have a weapon slot upgrade, you can have one of each weapon (Even one of each damage type, to boot)

What kind of bombs does your

What kind of bombs does your friend like to use? Shard, mist, DPS, which one? As for sword, I would say start with brandish. It has good upgrades. For guns,my opinion is to start with alchemers, as autogun leaves you vurnable. A more mobile weapon is essential to start T2, as some enemies attack more frequently, like kats.

If he likes everything tell him to stick to the 'standard' cobalt lines.

Well, or he could go Dark Briar Barrage - Polaris - Acheron.

but the cobalt lines are BAD

but the cobalt lines are BAD for everything, just about...

If you want to be all-round, either go divine-skolver (defensive) or chaos set (offensive)

That's the closest to all-around that you can get.

I nom on chocolate

Nah, cobalt is more all purpose, although the set sucks. I went up the chroma line first, cuz I wanted really sucessful RJP runs, but wolver would be your best bet, true. Unless if you don't use swords often...HMMMMMMMMMMM. Actually, sealed sword is great. For guns, antigua or pulsar are my favs. Actually, what armor/gear does this guy have now?

no, really no

cobalt is more all purpose

Cobalt/Azure Guardian is the default armor, but it's not really general-purpose armor. It's piercing armor with a decent amount of damage protection. So it's designed for one specific situation --- when you're facing a bunch of piercing monsters. But it's not even very good in that situation, because it has no status defenses or offensive bonuses. And it's terrible in other situations, such as when you're surrounded by devilites, storming Firestorm Citadel, storming Ironclaw Munitions Factory, etc.

Bopp says it all. If this forum had a Quote feature like SUF, I'd quote that post in every thread about the cobalt set.
