my two cents

Don't forget the really light swords (Cutters).

My opinion: Heavy and light swords are more fun than medium-weight swords.

Well, it depends on how you use the swords.
Heavy Swords:
Pros- Does great damage (hammers especially), interrupts enemy attacks, good knockback,
Cons- Leaves your back open, full combo is dangerous if not used corectly (hammers)
Normal Swords:
Pros- Good charge attacks (brandish, calibur), interrupts attacks on smaller enemies, safest option
Cons- Can't interrupt bigger enemies, not useful if surrounded
Fast Swords:
Pros- Looks awesome (cutter especially), huge damage on stationary targets, confuses enemies if you zip around them
Cons- Charge attacks aren't safe (cutter), charge attack isn't good (spur), normal attacks can leave you wide open in mobs

Overlook- I would prefer normal swords, just because of how safe it is if you know how to use it. It depends on your playing style, I would recommend buy one of each and experiment with them to see which fits your playing style.

I like heavy swords best,

I like heavy swords best, personally. It's more fun and I like nuking the field with DA charges, but Voltedge is a very nice tool to own.

This is a trick question, to which the proper answer is bombs.

WRONG, the awnser is clearly GUNS. I mean, how are you going to stop some big mean mother hubbard from tearing you a structurally superfluous new behind? The awnser... Use a gun. And if that don't work... Use more gun!

The answer is obviously gombs. While the sun shards got removed, the gun-bomb is still resisting!

No! Clearly, the answer is bons. While the sun shards are gone, Supernova, Polaris, and bomb-guns live on!

Flourishes! All the knockback and hitspace of a heavy sword, all the speed of a light sword, ridiculous quantities of damage, and none of that messing around on the charge attack leaving you exposed for 3 seconds straight, no sirree.

Just don't try to think about why a magic pixie dust sparkle toothpick manages to smash stone blocks faster than a lump of explosive, or the magic will go away.

Why so many TF2 meet the (insert madma-fighter here) references?

But I'd recommend medium swords for newer people, slow for more experienced people, and fast for those suicidal people
Or go heavy, and say this
"I am Heavy Weapons Guy. And this... [grips DA/GF/Suda/Triglav] is my weapon"
I've done the laughing, you do that quote

I now officially name my Plague Needle Sasha.

Also, why does nobody seem to consider the Flourishes as light swords?

@OP

It is my consensus that 3 hits words are superior to 2 hit swords in that they've got a better charge, are better at taking down turrets and are safer in general. They are not much better, but they are still in my opinion slightly better. I wrote about it in my the world post thing that you can find, but eh.

They use three strokes per combo, like medium swords. And their swinging speed (120 strokes per minute) is closer to medium swords' (117) than to fast swords' (145).

Spur doesn't exist

Good point, Warriorrogue. But in my world, there are exactly 18 swords --- the 5-star swords --- and Spur/Winmillion basically doesn't exist.

The reason for this semi-delusional stance is that I'm constantly advising newer players on how to plan their equipment. I want them to pick the 5-star items they want, and then work backward to figure out how to get them. If instead they work forward ("I have a Magnus...how should I upgrade it?") then they can end up in dead ends, or sinking a lot of CE into stuff they don't actually want. It leads to throwing good money after bad.

If Winmillion were really a good sword, comparable to 5-star swords, then I would soften my stance. That's just what I did with Radiant Sun Shards until it was changed. It's just what I do with Swiftstrike Buckler.

Incidentally, has anyone measured the strokes or combos per minute of Winmillion?

Wait what? I thought Flourish and BTB had the exact same speed.

Unless by "light swords" you mean the Cutter line...

Mister-Epic never clarified.

Mister-Epic never clarified. And doesn't understand apostrophes, apparently.

Also I might have taken someone who said "the Flourishes" too literally, assuming they meant ALL the piercing swords.

OOO must hate you for keeping people from spending more ce than they have to, lol.
I'd do the winmil measuring, but there's two things wrong:
1: I'd have to craft a new winmillion cause my current one has ASI med.
2: I have no clue how to properly collect data on such a thing.

If you're delusional for thinking spur doesn't exist, then clearly I am EVEN MORE delusional for thinking that I can be awesomely suicidal and make it work.

Thanks --- I take that as a compliment. :)

Have you seen the Lancer Knightz data? Here's how to run your test, so that it is comparable to their data:
1. Set a timer for 1 minute.
2. Perform Winmillion combos as fast as possible.
3. Repeat this combos-per-minute test until you seem to settle on an answer.
4. Post all of your results, in order, here. (Posting all of the results helps us get an idea of how precise your answer is. You can see these detailed data if you examine the wiki markup for the Lancer Knightz page.)

Don't get a new Winmillion. Just test it at whatever ASI you have, and note that in the test. Also, if you can change the ASI (for example by putting on some Vog Cub), then test it again. The more levels of ASI, the better we can compare to other swords.

I have a winmillion with no

I have a winmillion with no asi. But it's much easier to compare damage per hit.

Also how come the training dummies don't show DPS like the ones in Dungeon Defenders?

I tested winmillion, vile

I tested winmillion, vile striker, and khorovod (all 4* normal weapons) in a tier 3 guild training hall against a neutral punching bag with all cobalt gear (no bonuses), attacking for 30 seconds (without canceling) and counting the combos, then dividing by 60

Here are the surprising results:

VS had the most dps by FAR, even if you don't account for the poison: my number is 338. Assuming constant poison, that number becomes a staggering 411 dps.
Winmillion got second place, with 244dps, assuming all projectiles hit
khorovod got 222.3 dps, which makes sense. It's supposed to do slow powerful single strikes, dealing massive damage in fewer hits.

Also bear in mind this is constant attacking against a stationary target, so this wouldn't necessarily be practical in a real battle, but it gives you the idea of basic damage potential.

Bear in mind the perks of a slow sword.

It is much easier to hit multiple enemies at the same time with slow swords, which is one of the things they're meant for. What if you managed to hit 2 or 3 enemies at the same time with your khhorovod? It's DPS would vastly increase.

VS- 12 combos Winmillion-

VS- 12 combos
Winmillion- 14
Khorovod- 13

So not really a big difference. Vile Striker has fewer combos because each combo is up to 5x2=10 hits

And again, these are un-canceled.

great

So you estimate Vile Striker at 24 combos per minute (CPM), just like Lancer Knightz have for Dread Venom Striker. You estimate Khorovod at 26 CPM, just like LK have for Sudaruska. Great. (These are all at ASI+0 with no cancelling.)

You have Winmillion at 28 CPM, which is slightly slower than the Brandishes (31) but slightly faster than Fang of Vog (26). Thanks for the data.

I didn't know anyone really

I didn't know anyone really tested the CPM before. And you're welcome.

But yes, I tried to only compare Winmillion to other 4* weapons.
