Talk about OP.
Don't you hate Brandishes and Polaris?
I don't. They sure need some balance (Brandish needs fewer explosions and maybe less damage, and Polaris lower damage and a weaker knockback although not to the point of a Valiance since it is slower) but I like their mechanics a lot.
"Talk about OP."
OP once mooned OOO & got a warning from the GMs.
OP also has Joseph Stalin as an Alt.
And OP is named after a cat in a Shrek Movie.
I don't hate brandishes nor polaris. I do agree that polaris is op. However, in the case of the brandishes, I believe you are mistaken. Combuster is op. Glacius is hardly op, with its freeze cancelling knocback, and offering little extra damage. Voltedge is borderline op, though I have never used it. Archeron, being shadow damage with no status is not really op either. And then there's poor little cautery, stuck forever at 3 star and begging for an upgrade and buff. However, Combuster is quite overpowered, with high damage, and more knockback, with the fire contributing even more to the damage. And even against fire enemies, they still ride the full wave and are dealt high damage.
I'm not sure why you picked out those lines specifically to comment upon, when there are many others that you could have chosen, like Blitz Needle, DA, BTB, and Final Flourish. I believe perhaps what you meant was they are way too spammable.
But yes, polaris and combuster are way too overpowered.
~Magnicth
OP is an abbreviation for over powered.
In team parties, I have a difficult time fighting monsters when I try to use other weapons that are not Polaris and the Combuster. Yeah, I agree, I meant Combuster, not the entire Brandish lines. Weapons that do explosions are really annoying in parties. Maybe OP is not the correct term that I should be using. Haven't you ever felt helpless or not needed in the presence of a player who spams their Brandish or spams their Polaris? I rather just stay back and watch that person do all of the work, since it wouldn't even matter if I got myself involved.
Yeah I hate them. You know which other weapon do I hate? Haze bombs. I mean, they are so overpowered and they block your movement, its so ANNOYING, OOO should just take haze bombs out of the game. Or just bombs in general. meh. Actually, Statuses in general are so annoying, why cant we just take them off the game too?
Also, Antigua lines are just so overpowered too, and lets not start talking about the Sealed swords, Flourishes and troikas. Actually all of the swords in general are overpowered. And guns. Lets just take them out of the game too!
Trinkets are so terrible and just unbalance the game so much too! Lets also remove trinkets from the game.
It's true that they are not party friendly if others spam everywhere it and interrupt your own work.
But that's the users fault. Don't blame the weapon.
Combuster is truly powerful in PvE, that's quite true actually; using it myself, especially useful in FSC. The fact that it deals fire is also quite cool but to be fair a charge blow with all the consequent explosions is usually enough to kill the mob.
Combuster's behaviour (hitting ennemy multiple time with the charge blows) can be reproduced by shield bumping the ennemy; it doesn't always work well, especially on Glacius but still make it even more powerful.
I would be more concerned by the Polaris, but only in LD. Brandish charge in LD isn't that powerful; it's not a one hit kill and leaves you pretty vulnerable after unleashing it.
@ Canozo
It's not about the sheer power, but about what hazard it may leave for you. The Troika and Sealed Swords need to be used in a timely matter if you don't want to leave yourself open to the enemy. Polaris and Combuster are "Weapons of Spam Annoyance". The Blitz Needle has power, but it leaves the player with a dangerous opening. Players need to master the way they use their Blitz and slow swords/sealed swords. If there's anything that I dislike about Haze Bombs, is that they make it hard to see enemies when players are spamming multiple bombs at once.
As a player who has Chaos Cloak and is a master of evasion in SK, it takes no skill or trail and error to spam my Combuster. I want to play with other weapons in parties, but I hate coming out as a weakling and useless, when every player has either a polaris or a brandish, spamming it all over the map, while I'm running around with a Flourish, picking up the one or two monsters that aren't in the crossfire.
"Haven't you ever felt helpless or not needed in the presence of a player who spams their Brandish or spams their Polaris?"
It was such fun to run right into the heat of the battle with charged Calibur and make the Brandish spamming a bit harder with enemies flying aaaall over the room :D
(Just kidding :) )
Personally, I always liked the shadow dmg branch of Brandish; Nightblade /Acheron.
Maybe if AI performance for mobs was enhanced... Most levels are a slaughterers and massacres for many mobs. I get to do stuff in Underworld ;) MMM
I don't think I even understand the logic in that. How is a gun able to have crowd control? A gun that mobs! I'd understand piercing through enemies to hit the enemy behind it, but mobbing? And how are swords able to shoot lasers?? What is going on!! w/e! IMO, those weapons don't belong in SK with the current AI monsters. No, we don't need more health to the mobs, what we need is challenging AI performance.
I think there's more to SK than just 'tard mobs running around desperately to hit you; knights have to be mindful of their surroundings; also, correct me if I'm wrong but a circled player won't do any good using a Polaris.
Most hack'n'slash game do not rely on an especially good ennemy AI; the actual difficulty is the monster crowd and the fighting environment and I'm sure that's how OOO intended it to be, apart from bosses fights of course.
I think those drivers are OP like LOOK at those statuses like and the bouncing like whoa that's so OP nerf all the drivers. actually take them out of the game
hammer is op like whoa that dash. take it out of the game
faust/avenger is op like whoa that wide swing, take it out
blitz is op, poor trojans. take it out
every gun is annoying like take em out
bombs are like 360 range like OP take them out
swords are like OP too like whoa.. take em out
lets just have picnics with monsters
The Polaris isn't OP, it's just annoying when used incorrectly. The Storm Driver has a comparable multiple-target DPS with a chance to shock too, but no-one complains about it being OP because it doesn't bounce enemies around.

"[...] I'm running around with a Flourish [...]"
The only places where it's appropriate to use a Flourish are beast and fiend strata.
The only places where it's appropriate to use an elemental Brandish or Polaris are undead and construct strata.
If other people are carrying Combusters and Polarises, what are you doing with a Flourish?

"[...] And how are swords able to shoot lasers? [...]"
I agree, swords shooting lasers certainly isn't a new idea.
I use flourishes to fight undead and gremlins from time to time. They're incredibly good for killing mendors out of crowds, and aren't bad for crowd controling zambies either... semi-useful for fighting kats.
The brandishes are OP yes, but WRH really puts them into perspective- it gives much higher DPS. Sadly, DA's only benefit over them is one hitting turrets with it's charge. All in all, there is somewhat of a balance that brandishes are only slightly above due to their status inflictions and increased control.
I really don't see polaris as being that overpowered- the alchemers are ten times better than it in every way. Especially for crowd control... but I wrote all about that on the other thread. The alchemers would be balanced, if not for their ridiculous switching+internal ricochet thing that they've got going on.
Nerf my polaris and I'll complain about why Strikers are allowed to wear heart trinkets.
This is my only warning.
[all jokes aside though, I don't think anything is overpowered at the moment. polaris doesnt even cause flinching at close range, so its terrible against monsters that close gaps quickly like... everything but zombies and constructs, which it is effective against anyway UNLESS the player has sufficient skill to maneuver themselves and keep the required distance between themselves and the targeted monsters.
I think that the OPness is more a cry against the players that can use the weapons well, rather than the weapons themselves.]
I use my gigawatt against them and I use that to beat them. but I need 2 shots to hit. the clip size is fine. nerf the damage and/or the shock if you want, but let clip size be the same.
also, as you said, skill is the major thing that prevents you from dying. I usually have bad damage in LD (less than 2k) but I won against a polaris user only because he spammed and I aimed. most guns have the same range as the polaris; if you know how to use them, you can get out preety well.
O look this thread again >.>
Annyways please stop making these stupid thread cuz it's thanks to people like you
who are whining about OP weps.
I love my Combuster but I am not a Polaris user.
If a GM reads this and there will be more people whinig about: "Combuster and Polaris are OP"
they are going to nerf them ( maybe ) and if that happens the game will be ruined and a lot of ld players will be pissed of including me because Combuster is my baby. So please peeps necro this already Btw sorry for my bad Englih ( I am not English)
Have a great day <3
No.
