I was looking in the wiki, and I wanted defense from each element (piercing, shadow, and elemental). For the helmet and armor:

  • snarbolax gives shadow (poison + freeze resist)
  • sklover gives piercing (just freeze resist)
  • vog cub gives elemental (fire resist)

[all of them are damage bonuses except for vog cub which is ASI]

But when I see the Barbarous Thorn shield it says piercing
Wouldn't it be shadow? Just wanted to make sure its piercing before I craft my set.

But don't shield resistances

But don't shield resistances only apply when you're, well, shielding?

@Dusivio: Barbarous Thorn

@Dusivio: Barbarous Thorn Shield is piercing defense (plus normal), I think it must follow the Skolver line more.

@Mech:Yes, defenses and resistances on shields help make the shield last longer versus hits from those types of damage--e.g. Skelly shields will last longet versus poison or freeze undead attacks than fire or shock undead.

obligatory

All of the items that you get from the Snarbolax are piercing-themed: piercing sword, piercing bomb, normal+piercing shield. So it makes sense, actually.

Dusvio, you might or might not find the armor section of my sword guide helpful.

Re: Bopp

As most of the UV's from the wolver series give bonuses to swords, I do find your guide useful. Thanks for the link. I appreciate it.

I find it odd that...

The shield forged from the hide (or portions of) a beast does not protect against elemental, but instead protects against the very thing the beast was weak to.

Jelly shields block piercing.

Darkfang blocks elemental.

Snarby's odd.

so is Wolver then

Heavy-Dragon, you're basically right, but the same criticism could be made (and has been made, many times) of the entire Wolver line too. It should protect against elemental, like a wolver's hide. But instead it protects against piercing, to which a wolver is vulnerable. In this aspect, the only part of Wolver that makes sense is Vog Cub. Oh well.
