I've been wondering, why don't they make different servers that you can choose from? take for example runescape, they have like 100+ servers open, and each serves a different purpose. I think spiral knights should have this. ie. a lockdown server, blast network server, trading server (for people who want to sell high priced items and such), *insert your country here* servers, and and other kind i missed. idk don't go telling me everything wrong with this idea, I just wanted to put it out there

~ P.S. this idea was/is mainly for the trading server. I get very frustrated trying to sell my magic hoods with uv's on them, because the people usually congregated around me aren't interested, and the auction house is filled to the rim with magic hoods, so it's hard to make mine stand out, especially if it's a good deal.

The instances essentially act as servers. Haven 1 is usually the unofficial trading server, it's where all the traffic happens. (Also there's a trade channel)
If you're looking for servers to improve latency, there's two, one somewhere in the US, and one somewhere in Europe (sorry I can't give more detail, I don't remember exactly where they are)
It's a lot of fuss setting up more servers, RuneScape has only been able to do it because that is a huge game with a huge income.

EU Server is in Ireland IIRC.
There's Bazaar forum and /trade for trading.

Location of server?

Cost?

No of players in area to justify the new server?

Gm?

Duuuuude, considering that three rings merged with sega, and outsourced the rights for a non-connected server in Taiwan/hong kong.

They aren't the Devs of runescape.

Different servers only work if you have more than a few thousand people online at any given time. Also, as previously mentioned the Bazzar forum and the trade chat (/join trade) serve your purposes well.

hmm..

ok that's a little more clear to me, but I want to be able to choose which server I want to be on. they can always set a limit of players per server and set up two trade servers (in case the server is over capacity). idk I personally think it'd be a great convenience.

I do see a problem to this idea: some servers, ie. blast network (since no one harldy plays), being unused or less populated than the others

forgot:

my main reason for even posting is because i just want a place to meet to trade. it's more convenient than talking over the trade chat because you can see the person you're trading with.

so maybe (instead of making whole new servers) they could add a trading palace (it'd be like the garrison or the bazzar)? it could have different sections to it, ie. unique variant swords, unique varrient helmets, etc.

this may be pointless who knows :/

BN runs on the latency servers. Instances of matches you mean?

........

BN is not played because it's not LD.

Go to Haven 1, and stand infront of the auction house. That is the trading spot.

If you want a trading place.

Why not just expand haven a little more or build a new building so people enter the information of what they are trying to sell. Then it finds a result of who is interested and alerts both the buyer and seller. Then trade away and negotiate. The trade window would pop up like it does on steam if you ever saw it before.

Saves people time instead of creating a totally new server.

Let me kno what you think.

@Bullpig:
Click the mini-map while in Haven. It'll give you a list of all server instances available to join. Limiting servers to certain roles isn't particularly resource-efficient.

@Hyiaku:
So.. you want an auction house.. without the time or fees..
I don't think there's all that much call for a specific place for private sales. How you advertise, is up to the seller.

Really what I'm saying is u put in your information, the other people put in their information, find match and they have to be online to do it. But also unlike AH, it doesn't take away some of your crowns, it can be any language that translates to the other person, and there is negotiating. AH is a set price set bid thing so there isn't much of negotiation between the two.

Again I just suggested this so instead of completely new servers, its just a new building or place.

im confuzzled.

I thought servers were servers. As in servers where you can play the game closest to your RL location.
ex) playing in a US Server to get less ping because i live in US
Or am i wrong? Please tell me!

Yes, servers are in different locations around the world that you can connect to to improve your latency.
However, some locations host multiple servers for various purposes such as a dedicated trading server, dedicated Fist of Guthix/Clan Wars servers (RuneScape minigames) which are somewhat comparable to "instances" of Haven.
