Hello, and welcome to the Aperture Science Enrichment Center! Here, you'll be-

Bursts out laughing.

Ok I'll never be able to do that with this whole post...

Hi! Being a new shards fanatic, I got this idea. We have a shard bomb for each monster familly, except constructs and....knights? Yeah, I'm going to design one for the two other types just so they aren't left out. So let's get started...no, not really............ok fine I won't stall.

The recipes were made by looking at the recipes of the other bombs.

Rusted Crystal Bomb

  • Damage: Equivalent to Sun Shards and Rock Salt Bomb, but with elemental instead.
  • Damage Bonus vs Construct: Very High
  • Description: A hunk of alloy designed to rust. Why anyone would want an alloy like this, no one knew...not until they found that the rust spread to their robotic adversaries.
  • Visual Description: Looks like this but with orange color instead of green.
  • Materials for crafting:
    • 10 Green Shards
    • 3 Brimstone
    • 2 Waste Modules
    • 1 Unstable Core (maybe Toxic Core instead?)
    • 1 Crystal Bomb (Level 1)

Nothing special here...move along.

Rapidly Rusting Crystal Bomb

  • Damage: Equivalent to Radiant Sun Shards and Ionized Salt Bomb, but with elemental instead.
  • Damage Bonus vs Construct: Very High
  • Fair chance of causing Moderate Poison
  • Description: A solid chunk of rust with an explosive surprise inside. Mecha Knights hate surprises.
  • Visual Description: Looks like this but with orange color instead of green.
  • Materials for crafting:
    • 15 Green Shards
    • 4 Brimstone
    • 3 Waste Modules
    • 2 Unstable Cores (maybe Toxic Cores instead?)
    • 1 Corrosive Acid
    • 1 Rusted Crystal Bomb(Level 5)

Yup, you read right. This thing poisons. Why would you want that? Because gremlins menders and constructs spawn very often together. This will let you easily poison those robotic foes and let the gremlin mender go to work. But wait...why not use a Venom Veiler? Well, this sucker will do more damage than it when used properly, so you can more effectively dispatch sentient metal monsters-err constructs.

Consumed Crystal Bomb

  • Damage: Equivalent to Scintillating Sun Shards and Shocking Salt Bomb, but with elemental instead.
  • Damage Bonus vs Construct: Very High
  • Fair chance of causing Moderate Poison
  • Description: A large chunk of solid rust primed with a potent explosive. It's able to manually override a Mecha Knight and his friend's power systems, forcing it them to the off setting.
  • Visual Description: Looks like this but with orange color instead of green.
  • Materials for crafting:
    • 20 Green Shards
    • 5 Brimstone
    • 4 Waste Modules
    • 3 Unstable Cores (maybe Toxic Cores instead?)
    • 2 Corrosive Acids
    • 1 Plague Essence
    • 1 Rapidly Rusting Crystal Bomb(Level 10)

Tell me what you think! I'll do the other bomb soon, but I have things to do. Also, I'm going to be proposing a few other changes to the shard bomb series, particularly one which would help it become stronger in PvP.

Mechanic Changes!
  • PvP: Shard bombs should pierce invincibility frames, as well as not cause these frames. This would allow for multiple shards to hit, as well as keep from disrupting allies' attacks.
  • PvE: Remove the hit limit! It only comes into play in a few instances, but hugely nerfs what would make it much more versatile for non-bombers. When testing it on the RJ just now, it acted as if he was on only one shard when he was really on all six! (Alteast make it act as if he is on three in this case....)
  • PvE and PvP: MAJOR NORMAL SHARD BOMB CHANGE...give it a normal attack. I mean, make it so you can use it without charging. You could plant up to 3 bombs at a time. It would have reduced damage and radius when used without a charge. When doing this, it would have varying effects:
    • At 2* and 3*: It would have 3 shards, with two below and one on top.
    • At 4* and 5*: It would have 4 shards in a square formation.

Note that this applies to the statusless, normal damage shard bombs only.

I'll add more as I think of them and as they're suggested.

EDIT: this was going to be for the second shard bomb...I'll do that in the OP.

(4/9/13) UPDATE: Added Normal Shard bomb change...tell me what you think!

We do not need more reskinned, unoriginal shard bombs. We already have six.

At least one of them should be normal damage or have undead bonus for variety.

Already discussed...

I'll skip to the short of it, this has already been discussed, "this" being status variant shardbombs...

No has link yet, will here soon.

You hurt me, bro....

I love these bombs so much I'm hooked on using them all the time...even in PVP. Yes it doesn't work too good, but I'll figure something out.

And besides, it isn't fair to constructs. Why do they have to be left out from a delicious meal?

@Little-Juances

The burning one will do normal. We have an Undead one.

@Oatmonster

What bombs should we get then?
A sixth Blast Bomb (thinking Nitro, Irontech, BAB, Decon, DBB (yes, DBB is a reskinned Blast Bomb with ONE altered aspect in functionality))?
A DR? That'd either be OP or OP or OP, depending on if it'd be Piercing, Elemental or Normal.
A Haze bomb? Don't we have enough?
Another Vortex? ...

Nothing makes all the Shard Bombs less original than all the others, DR aside, I guess. What we need in reality is new bombs if anything regarding this.

I run a guild named "Shard Squad", which always has room for people exactly like you. Interested? You and Diamondshreddie would surely get along well, and we could all go puresharding some places for chills and giggles. Maybe we could even work out LD strategies if we're enough people about it!

Have you considered that a fire-themed, normal-damage shard bomb would be considerably weaker than Shocking Salt Bomb against people in full Snarbolax? That you'd probably get more damage and interruption going on a single knight using Ash of Agni? I'll be interested to see how you handle these issues when you write up Burning Shard Bomb.

We also have a construct one, a beast one, a fiend one, a jelly one, a gremlin one, and one for all situations.

@Krakob, You use a Nitro and then a BAB and you tell me they are just reskins. The DR is situational. We have more shard bombs than mist bombs, and in more damage types. What do I even need to say about vortexes? We have two of them. Why do you just want reskinned bombs, and why do you want to reskin the most reskinned bomb?

point 1 oaty

Oaty has point, shards are most rekinned bomb evar, in fact, they are effectually the bomber's answer to alchemers and brandishes, except they are technically broken into 4 alchemy trees.

To tell the truth, I have

To tell the truth, I have already heard of the Shard Squad. I've been considering joining...I'm already in a guild, so I want to make sure it's ok with them if I leave. When I'm ready, I'll mail Zeddy in game about it.

The burning one will have it's own little gimmick which will divide it from the rest of the field! The standard shard bomb line will also get a little buff to keep it from going completely obsolete. In the clockworks, the fire one will also be compensating for it's lower damage compared to the normal one with the fire, which will do slightly more damage over time. (However, consistently hitting something with the standard one will kill it faster.) The fire it will deal will probably also be a stronger kind compared to the AoA. (AoA deals minor fire. This will probably do strong or moderate fire.)

Even if these bombs have been reskined a lot, the Alchemers and and Brandishes have been reskined a lot, too. One of the pros of having so many kinds of shard bombs is that you can maximize your damage versus every enemy as well as tailor your shard bomb to your needs. It helps give freedom!

Giving a normal attack to only the normal shard bomb seems odd. How would you explain other bombs/shard bombs not having this attack? I'd much prefer an actual balance rather than stacking on an arbitrary extra ability.
