Hi, Diamondshreddie here. Today, I would like some opinion from the general playerbase, as to;

Which status do you find most helpful, and which status is your favourite?

I ask this because as it stands, I own all but one of the five-star mist status bombs, and I want to know which ones to use with different people! :)
Please post your answer in a format that includes the following:
___________________
-Name ( introduce yourself ;) )
-Weapon preference(s)
-Party role(s)
-Most helpful status (explain)
-Favourite status (explain)
-Least helpful status (explain)
___________________

Bombers are welcome to post anyways, but make sure you include your party role, EG: Offense, Crowd Placement, Status Distribution, etc. And remember, we are referring to status in the context of haze bombs, so yes, reliable constant appearance of said status.

In fact, I'll go first !

-Diamondshreddie, at your service
-Bombs and AoE weapons are my specialty
-Status dealer
-I find shock to be the most helpful status to me, it helps slow and interrupt enemies for ease in bomb setup, and allows for massive hit and minimal knockback distribution in synergy with shard bombs
-My favourite status is stun! Because it helps you predict the amount of slowing even more if you pretend you are in the matrix, and allows for epic close quarter endeavors.
-I find fire to be the least helpful status, because it doesnt really do much else but soften enemies with no supportive effects. Also cannot be damage-boosted.

-Results-

..Freeze: 5
......Fire: 4
...Shock: 18
.....Stun: 9
..Poison: 13

-Swords - CTR Max total
-Front Line

-Poison - dmg bonus
-Shock - although it throws off monster attack patterns sometimes.
-Nitronome. Don't ever use that thing near me. /flex Yes that is a status. /wink

-Lanny

EDIT:

While freeze is useful for building up a charge or escaping or slowing things down, as a swordsmen, I find it a hindrance as sometimes it blocks me in and prevents shield bump. Stun is also useful.

Oh!

Interesting!
I never knew that swordsmen really valued poison that much! And since I'm not deducting points on least favourite statuses, I'll accept jokes like this. And no I don't use my nitronomme often, at all.

The more observant ones among you may have noticed that my name is Sir-GreenLink. :P I am a hybrid player, who prefers swords over guns and bombs but likes bombs slightly more than guns.

Freeze, poison and fire are the three status bombs that I own. The shivermist Buster is probably the most useful because it helps a lot with crowd control (solo or in a group). I also like to use the Venom Veiler for levels such as the final room of Legion of Almire. If you've ever played that mission, you may know that it can be frustrating when the respawning silkwings undo all your hard work and heal the dreadnoughts. What better way to get payback than to not only prevent their healing but to also cause damage to monsters when a silkwing tries to heal them?

Fire is a status that I actually haven't gotten much use out of. I also don't plan on getting the Stun bomb because I don't see how I could apply it effectively (I know it can be done but it's probably not the bomb for me).

-Stun. This is a poor man's freeze, but it affects the things immune to freeze, which usually inflict freeze themselves.
-Shock. The aoe damage and twitch is awesome.
-Fire. It great against one rare monster and against knights.

Nexassassin! :D

Weapons:
Swords (brandishes) and guns (Blitz Blitz, wink wink)

Party Role(s):
Max Damage hitting, more durable than paper living, kills mobs before they get a chance guy....that or I'm shivermisting in danger missions.

Most Useful Status:
Status? Darn, well Vortexes are out. Freeze without a doubt is the status that keeps me and the whole party alive in particular when the situation becomes overwhelming and a lot of breathing space is needed. Also allows you to pick enemies off at your own pace.

Favourite Status:
If only I wasn't fighting undead all the time and if only it had a haze bomb variant it'd Curse.
Probably poison if SK had a more effective defense mechanism (apart from assassinating various mobs, I dream about tanking hits like a baws).
It'll have to be Shock. A pain in LD, interrupts some attacks in pve, epic damage for a haze bomb against a huge horde of zeds neatly compacted and unlike freeze, it doesn't stop them from clumping together when I release a sadistically pleasant brandish charge.

Least Helpful Status:
Fire, 'nuff said....
....I wanna say more.
For a start, cancels freeze, freeze cancels it.
In the context of bombers (in particular Mad Bombers) damage bonuses are made redundant; it doesn't affect the fire.
If you wanted to do damage, please I insist, use a Nitronome (seriously Nitro users don't bug me at all) *troll Nitro haters*.
Did I mention oilers?

-Party role(s)- defensive reconnaissance specialist (I like taking out the monsters which are causing the most trouble with my team; turrets, healers, etc)
-Most helpful status (explain)- Freeze, stops most enemies dead on their tracks. Good crowd control for finishing the job efficiently
-Favourite status (explain)- Poison, the damage bonus can make a player cause more damage than maximum. [ex. AP Max Damage vs undead = 156, AP Max Damage possible + Poison vs undead = 170+]
-Least helpful status (explain)- Fire or Stun. Fire just lights thing up for a long time and stun is still broken so some monsters get stunned while others are stunned yet somehow faster.

-Least helpful status: Fire. Doesn't let me kite around enemies easily. In fact, putting a tanky bruiser on fire does barely any damage. And I can't kite that easily.

-Weapon preference(s): Argent Peacemaker

-Party role(s): Damage; Support - staying alive longer than anyone else in case the need for reviving happens, likely at the cost of damage.

-Most helpful status: VT, VV, SS. These are fairly situational, but VT I enjoy over Shivermist, since VT doesn't completely stop everything from moving, but charge attacks or, say, zombie jumps, are nullified. VV is a straight up damage boost and prevention bomb. SS, similar to VT, is damage prevention without slowing everything down.

-Favourite status: I'd have to go with Venom Veiler (Poison), as rarely as I see it.

-Least helpful status: Fire moreso than Shivermist (outside of Vanaduke), but both of them are generally not as helpful. Fire is hardly support, it's more like suppressive fire ucwutididthar, and Shivermist makes everything slow.

Name
Calcium (as Eclaium)

Weapon preference(s)
Any weapons excluding Calibur, Divine Avenger, Pulsars and weapons that I don't have.

Party role(s)
Depends on the party but mainly damage, and crowd control with EV.

Most helpful status (explain)
Depends on the depth I'm doing.
FSC: Shock in D24-D27. Simply because the zombies are clumped together. In D28, Poison.
Undead level: Shock because of Kats and zombies are often clumped together.
Fiend level: Stun, I find it very effective on those auto aiming devilites and stalking gravers.
Jelly level: Fire because of Icecubes, and they are weak to Fire.
Gremlin level: Poison because of menders.
Construct level: Shock, because of mecha knights.
Beast level: Fire, it still deals average damage on wolvers that teleport.

Danger mission
LoA: Any status. Poison helps in the last room as the healers heal slags immediately.
HoI: Stun/Fire
C42: Freeze (first of all those slimes are immune to fire, poison, and stun, what else would I choose lol)
GitM: Any status.

Favourite status (explain)
Generally Shock. Because tempest looks cool. :>
In Arenas, Poison. Menders are usually in an arena. Also only a few weapons can deal poison and most of them are either unpopular or can kill monsters even before poisoning them such as Biohazard, Plague Needle and 3* Sealed sword. Plus obviously Venom Veiler.

Least helpful status (explain)
Freeze. It does not allow you to shield bump. It does not allow you to knock back.

Role: Kill things fast

Most helpful status: None. As the mist bombs are designed right now, they are all situational. These bombs are more for defensive purpose and if you can put up a good offense, it's already the best defense.

Favourite status: None. Instead of charging your mist bombs, you can charge your Vortex, Blitz or Brandishes.

Least helpful status: AoA and VT. The cocktail of the DoT bomb is just not as good as Vortex + Brandish charges, or lots of Blitz. Something Devs should look into because bombers have been gimped not only more than once by equipment (oRSS and Mad Bomber set), but their bombs are also subpar by design.

As I said, mist bombs are mostly for defensive purpose. So yes, they have their usage scenario but none of them really stand out as the "winner".

VV is useful when you have healers around. Aside from that, you may as well save the charge time of VV for an extra charge of Brandish or Blitz. The damage gain isn't worth it. The key to understand this is that:

  1. dead things cause 0 damage and it is the optimal defense;
  2. therefore, best defense is a good offense;
  3. time is damage.

So if any of the mist bombs want to fill its proper role (defense / support), they need to be revised somewhat. Otherwise, don't even bother charging these mist bombs. Use the time to dish out more damage and make sure things die before they can hurt you.

For people who cares, go look up Magnus' sword guide. I think he got it right to emphasize on the importance of speed in SK. The same philosophy can be applied to bombers (or why not to become a bomber until it being fixed).

Burq
Gran Faust is my One True Love <3

Name: Burq

Weapon preference(s): Swords (specially the heavy swords) but lately bombs are incredibly fun to play! Guns are good too, but they feel a lot less fun to me.

Party role(s): All-out attacking (Swords with Max Damage, Charge and ASI VH and with a few guns or status bombs as backup, thou I usually go solo if I am going with this) or Support bomber with turret-killing guns (I have all the status bombs and DBB and staying back and helping a team work better is always nice)

Most helpful status: Shock (crowd control + damage is such a great thing, specially in enemy pack levels. If it wasnt for the trojans, the rocket puppy room and Vana himself, I could easily clear FSC with Voltaic Tempest alone), with Poison a close second (Damage and defense debuff + screwing up healers is always nice, helps soooo much if you are going pure bomber). Though if paired up, shock/stun or fire/poison are amazing. Curse would also go here but you can rarely use it thanks to the rarity of the vials and the most common enemy you seem to face in tier 3 is either immune to curse (undead/fiend) or using another weapon would be more effective.

Favourite status: CURSE. Sweet Vog, I love curse so much. Gran Faust is probably my favorite weapon in the game (and it was my first 5* item I got!), too bad I can rarely use it in Tier 3 missions but it's always great when I see gates with Tier 3 gremlin levels. Shock is second favorite followed closely by poison.

Least helpful status: It's a toss up between freeze and stun. While freeze IS amazing for FSC and Shadow lairs/Danger Missions, on it's own and outside of those levels (adding Devilites levels to it too), it just feels unnecessary at times when I got bomber or gunner (with swords, thou, it is a godsend if you can work around the no-shield bumping) and can hinder your team at times.

Stun, on the other hand, you can use pretty much everywhere without a care in the world, but you need to use it on a team that will dispatch the slowed monsters or it adds to just making everything slower for you by wasting the time using the status in the first place instead of using anything else directly. Add to that the status doesnt last long and some enemies are bugged when stunned makes it not very useful or effective on it's own since you need to keep applying it all the time; still, it's useful when on a big party.

Njthug ---- Bomber since Beta =0

-Weapon preference(s)
Ash of Agni, Dbb, Big Angry, Irontech Destroyer, Crystal Bombs, and VT

-Party role(s)
Really matters on the map ofc, but I am usually a blast bomber unless my role is just to weaken the enemy then I will use Ash of Agni or Vt (mainly Aoa).

-Most helpful status (explain)

In my view these are the most useful:

Stun or Shock --- Against fiends is very useful in my view

Fire --- tends to be very useful if you want your party members to clean up monsters fast. It does more damage than Vt over-time and seems to work a bit faster.

-Favourite status (explain)

Fire --- I like to light monsters up =0

-Least helpful status (explain)

I think all the statues help out the VV (Venom bomb) is not used so much, and I do use it time to time in arenas to help my party, but overall due to the healers being very weak now a days it is not needed so much.

Partly role: Puzzle solver, just to speed up the runs in case people are lazy.
Most helpful status: stun/shock versus mecha knights + almirian crusader, it cancel their charge attack. shock versus kats + greavers, same also cancel their dash. curse versus ADHD monsters, constant damage. stun/poison in general, cause it helps?. fire for constant damage, shock, more damage for dense group of monsters. (I am being indecisive, aren't I?)
Least helpful status: I prefer stay away from freeze, unless it's really needed. As far I see them, most of the time you don't really need freeze.

-Name--Dagoth-Mafuba

-Party role(s)--full offensive with heavy swords or brandish charge from behind at point blank range (always rush to frozen people if see them), can be support with shiv or polaris
-Most helpful status--stun, awesome against fiends and still works for most enemies (second one would be poison)
-Favourite status--ice, on anyting except mecha knights from my glacius(id rather pick what i wanna freeze, not all in range of shiv).
-Least helpful status--from bombs its fire, id rather see poison, fire ring sometimes make monsters hard to see and thaw the ones i got stuck in ice, the only exception are ice jellys

Status bomber is really helpfull on missions like danger heart of ice or shadow lair ice queen (ash of agni is sooo awesome there).
If i could choose i would like to have in party swordsman like myself, a gunner and status bomber. Too bad vortex bomb doesn't count, but oh man get vortex and 3 charges in sync and BOOM! all enemies are dead in style xD

I'm in love with my Gran Faust! I haven't had much experience bombing though. I mainly use swords and a backup gun and/or bomb.

Party Role~
Carrying the party is what I usually do. Ya know, keeping peeps alive. And some CC. (It can be done with a sword!)

Most Helpful Status~
It's definitely situation-based, but I find shock to be the best all around. It slows enemies down, and damages them!

Favorite Status~
I find curse to be very amusing, but deep down my roots are in shock.

Least Helpful Status~
Probably stun, as I can slow an enemy down just almost as much with shock, but still do damage. Again, this is situation-based.

-Party role: Support-damage bomber, I know I'm not welcome here ;; but still ;3 Spreading status and spreading damage, be it with a moar offensive-type bomb or with a massive glacier. Oh, and using that glacier-tier knockback for defensive purposes when necessary, that's always fun.
-Most helpful status: Poison overall, I think. The defensive debuffs are wonderful, and adverse healing is easymode for Decon Zones and arenas.
-Favourite status: I love me some fire (AoA was my first 5* bomb) and there's a certain satisfaction to seeing hostiles fall over and die right before they attack. And, well, I adore that "ignite" sound effect >w<
-Least helpful status: Freeze :c I get that it's a massive boon in FSC but I personally think shock is better in the citadel itself in most cases, and in my opinion, ***ShivBlitz wombo combo*** takes the fun out of His Highness.

It boils down to what status you want since the bombs are identical otherwise. It also depends on what things are going to be resistant to what statuses, like taking Agni to Vanaduke.

Of the five statusesusesusesauce we have to choose from, fire is the least player to player support oriented. Fire hurts stuff. No movement interruption, no wedgies, just damage. Agni is good for offense but as a support weapon you could still use it in junction with someone using a weapon which inflicts another status or does less damage than whatever pixie wands and squirt guns people like to stick up their noses.

Shivermist is usually considered amazing support since it completely immobilizes anything that mindlessly frolics into the white fart cloud, but while things are frozen that means your allies will be unable to shield bump them in case they get stuck between a Lumber and a Trojan. If you waddled around town asking what Vaporizer people think is the best support weapon chances are not only will most say Shivermist, but some will question if anything else can even think about competing. Because apparently this game is about spamming Fiddlestrum Kittendollars.

Shock is the hybrid between fire and ice with damage over time and mobility interruption. The damage per tick is not as high as fire but the interruption more than compensates by not only halting whatever movement the afflicted is attempting, but completely interrupting whatever action they were doing. The damage part may not be very support oriented as with fire but the interruption plays a significant role against enemies which hit harder and faster than you can handle. I like flopping around with my Voltaic because it works great for self and team support.

I hear Swagger Storm is great since stun was fixed but I have yet to make my own. From what I have seen with stun it would be amazing in a giant fart cloud, especially paired with something like Voltaic to completely poop on anything trying to do anything in its area of effect. You would be better off asking someone who actually has it but I consider Swagger to be more of a partner support Vaporizer.

Venom has the greatest support status there is. It lowers enemy defense, attack, prevents them from healing themselves, and causes them to take damage when healed by other things. It has no effects on mobility, deals no damage over time, does nothing to their animations; its effects are entirely passive. That means you can have it hold hands with literally any status and it still contributes more for support than the other.

To all zero of the people who care:

  • I have no idea anymore. Maybe if I check the tattoo branded on my forehead with burning steel I might remember.
  • Bombs, Valiance, Dread Venom, Vanquisher, Sudaruska
  • Crowd control, interference, or whatever I feel in the mood for.
  • Poison and shock depending on whether you are soloing or in a team and what other weapons are in use. Both can be used with positive results soloing and partying but shock can cover a bomber to wind up other bombs while the shock keeps everything sparking and poison with three other knights in your party means they hit harder while enemies hit softer. Imagine giving a knight boxing gloves with bricks in them, then giving a Lumber a tiny wool mitten to put on its pointy noggin.
  • Throughout my days of bombing I would usually get booted for daring to do something so ridiculous or would be so amazing at support that people would praise me for something as simple as spamming Voltaic in an arena full of freeze resistant whatevers. I grew to like Voltaic more than the other Vaporizers because I could take it into any run not shock themed and even if I got kicked I would still be fine.
  • You already read about it a while ago. Now go have some mangoes.

Questions of VAST importance:

What does "support" mean?

I can't seem to remember what I do...as I recall, it was "kill it with fire" beyond that there are no "least helpful" status effects that I can remember having to carry on my person, everything was useful somewhere somehow at some point for some reason, yes it's a short reason, but still a good one.

Name :
Natsu Dragneel ( Damn the person that took this IGN : Natsu )

Weapon Preference :
Give me anything and I can beat the crap out of any monster. ( Or shortly, I am Jack of All Trades. )

Party Role :
Well, it depends. I usually do runs with specific people, so everyone knows what to do, and what to not. But as I am not a defensive bomber, I mostly offensive with all weapons, be it either bombs, swords and guns.

Most Helpful Status :
This also depends on the depth I am in. But in general, Venom Veiler dominates all for me. In fact, I didn't think it was useful until Zeddy used it in PvP and Neometal ( My friend ) used it in PvE. It is really a nightmare for both Knights and Monsters. Stagger Storm deserves a mention too; it is perfect against the damn Auto-Targeting Fiends.

Favourite Status :
Owell... I love the cloud that Voltaic Tempest causes, it looks artistic and beautiful in my eyes. *_*

Least Helpful Status :
Ash of Agni. I don't why, but I didn't like this bomb except against Jellies, and even against them, Oilers can cause chaos with it. But in general, AoA lacks the ability to help other members do something, that's in my opinion.

In the end, I'd like to tell all Supportive Bombers out there : I <3 You, keep supporting, and never give up on dreaming about the return of the RSS!

RSS...
Radiant Sun Shards...
Damn it...
Goes into a corner and starts crying silently...
Falls asleep...

@Dragneel

Here's a deadly shard bomb. Please kill the Roarmulus Twins and Vanaduke with it.

@Zeddy :

I said any monster, not any boss. And that phrase was just exaggerating. But I am truly able to play with any weapon, except for some bombs, and new shards are one of them. Actually, I might be able to kill Vanaduke with DBB only, but guess my latency is going to prevent me from so, but if someday I get 3 bars ( Like in the past... ) I might actually try that.

Name: Fleet-Miss-Gun

Weapon Preference: All kinds of bombs.

Party Role: Supporter and Crowd Controller.

Most Helpful Status: Shock because it interrupts monsters and the shock ticks can hit more than 2 monsters.

Favourite Status: Shock because WHO DOESN'T LIKE LIGHTNING!?

Least Useful Status: Freeze because it prevents shield bumping.

The name's Whimsy, and I don't know how to Krogmo.

I'd like to think of myself as a jack of all trades, master of none. I can sword, I can support bomb, and I can gun, but not with utmost efficiency. I'm rocking the Chaos set for MAX CTR and VH damage on everything. My bombs are mostly support type bombs, such as Voltaic Tempest, Stagger Storm, or Graviton Vortex. No matter the situation, though, I always carry my Voltedge with me.

A helpful status would be SHOCK. Except in situations in which it would hinder movement, it is useful crowd control, and provides decent DPS and splash damage against many monster mobs. I wouldn't knock off STUN or FIRE for crowd control or DPS, respectively.

My favourite status is SHOCK not only for its balance of CC and DPS, but I love the colour scheme altogether.

My least favourite status would be FREEZE. It's far too situational (read: Vanaduke) for my tastes, and I like being able to maneuver and shield bump. Sure, it freezes the enemies in place for a good setup for swordsmen, but a Vortex just does that job better.

I would use Offensive bombs more often if the Sun Shards weren't "remade"(nerfed) horribly...
