i need to find a path for my plate shield, but i can't decide witch one to take. i do fsc runs alot, so i might need volcanic, but otherwise ironmight is my only piercing defense. any suggestions?

piercing defense not very important
In most of the game, piercing defense is not very important, because beasts are the easiest monster family and slimes are one of the easiest families too. (The Shadow Royal Jelly Palace is a notable exception.) So consider just playing without any piercing defense. Or consider getting a piece of Skolver if you use swords. If you don't really want IPS, then don't get it just because your other equipment isn't optimized yet.
Ironmight will get you through FSC provided you don't get banged around a lot by slags or run into too much fire. Once you collect 30 tokens you can get a Blackened Crest, which can become a Crest of Almire which is one of the best shields there is for FSC.
