Invincible shield: workable?

Suppose we had a shield line that worked like the monster shields. They are invincible within a limited arc (to be defined), but you cannot turn or move while they are up. They also have a minimum "up-time," during which they cannot be lowered (also to be defined). You can choose to hold them up for longer, and then you can lower them at will, but not before the minimum up-time has passed.

3*: 45-degree frontal arc, 1.5 sec up-time.
4*: 90-degree frontal arc, 1.0 sec up-time.
5*: 180-degree frontal arc, 0.5 sec up-time.

I have a hunch that the 5* is overpowered. Got any pointers for me?

You have the up-time, how long is the down time? I think that'll determine wether they're OP or useless.

There needs to be a maximum up-time. Otherwise one player can just stand in a choke point while someone is behind them with an autogun, killing everything.

Which would be cool, I have to admit.

interesting concept, but:

looks like this shield can't bump the enemies...
what's happen is you get cornered against trojan/Vanaduke?

anyway, is a good teamwork shield, if the ally bullets is allowed to pass

Then you brought the wrong shield. It can't do everything a normal shield does and be invincible.

Thanks for the input!

@Hexzyle: I lol'd. xD

I've toyed with the idea of maximum up-time and cool down time, but can you imagine trying to use that in the Clockworks? The timing issues alone would kill you. You use your shield for 1) canceling, 2) surviving timing errors, 3) pushing away enemies, 4) tanking when surrounded, and 5) protecting your party members. Having a maximum up-time would be redundant, since you can often just click fast enough to work around it. If we implemented a cool down time, you can no longer use the shield for canceling or correcting timing errors. Now, having a *minimum* up time will also disrupt offensive usage, but it won't mess with your shield-canceling or your defensive timing nearly as much.

@Zeyez: the shield can still bump enemies. I didn't remove that.

@Noklip: it's a defensive shield; it messes with your offensive abilities (by implementing a minimum up-time and immobilizing you) while still allowing the basic shield functions.

2 players, back to back and a bomber in the middle. Or with some timing another player could just wait for the time to raise his shield and replace whoever is in the front, negating the effect of being limited.

This would be a good Plate Armor combo shield.

You lol'd? I thought you actually got this idea from the unimplemented Stop Sign Shield...

I guess I should just be quiet now then before my comments are filled with redacteds.

How, when you can't bring shields into lockdown?
