I used to just switch guns as in shoot- switch - shoot... with scroll up being attack and scroll down being defend.
But I heard that shield switch shooting is faster.. but i cannot put it on my mouse.
So are you switch shooters out there.. what is your keyboard/ mouse layout...?
Switch shield shooting keyboard/mouse layout...
WASD: Movement, L-Shift: Shield, LMB: Shoot, Q: Previous weapon, E: Next weapon
I can shield switch shoot with this setup while moving, but I honestly do not know how. I wouldn't really suggest my setup.
As a gunslinger, I use WASD: movement, Left click: attack, Right click: shield, Scroll up: previous weapon, Scroll down: next weapon.
And shield switch shooting is faster because much like swords, it cancels the animation, allowing you to switch faster. ASI also makes a difference when switch-shield-shooting, especially for alchemers, so it may be tricky to get down at first.
I use WASD movement via my whole left hand;
LMB and right index finger: shield;
mouse wheel(scroll up and scroll down) and right middle finger: weapon slot 1/weapon slot 2;
RMB and right ring finger: attack.
I found that re-positioning my fingers like above ^ made things a bajillion times easier and less tiring, compared to using your right index finger for both scrolling and shielding, which I used to do.
Switch shooting with only one alchemer/gun is probably a little less strong as with two, and is a teeny bit harder, but opens up a weapon slot for something else.
If you're possibly planning to switch shoot with only one gun (shoot, shield, switch, switch back), you'll want to use the keys weapon slot 1/weapon slot 2 (they're on 7, 8, 9, and 0 on default I think) on your mouse wheel instead instead of next weapon/previous weapon. With next weapon/previous weapon you just can't switch and switch back to a weapon fast enough. If you try spasming over your mouse wheel (without shooting) with weapon slot 1/ ws2, you'll find that you can switch so fast you can't even see your other weapon. You can't do this with next weapon/previous weapon for some reason.

the racing controller part is a joke.....
I use WASD for movement, lCTRL/space/F/R for weapons, m1 to attack and m2 to shield. While it makes stationary switch-firing very easy to learn and allows you to switch-fire weapons that aren't adjacent in your loadout, it becomes very difficult to do so while aiming and moving in anything other than a straight line, so it's probably sub-optimal in that regard.
