I just started playing again after storming off angrily months ago after the RSS nerf and I saw some players wearing some of these "flak jacket" armors, and they look cooler than any other armor in the entire game.
However, I don't know how to get them. After some reading, I found out they're rewards from prize boxes (none on AH every time I checked) and also are only available as a starter armor (I started playing in June 2011). So, what to do? I can't get my hands on one of these for my main, but...but I needs it!
These Not-So-New-Fangled Flak Jackets
So is there any way to obtain it besides buying one off someone else (don't get me wrong I will buy it if I can afford it :D) ? I mean, has OOO implemented a means of obtaining other starter armors?
How much exactly is "reasonable" price for a frosty flak jacket? They are discontinued limited edition items, after all. I don't think I could buy something that requires several thousand CE to purchase, considering that I am pretty much a Spiral hobo in comparison to all this wealth I see flying around.
As far as I know, flak jackets are only available from promos.
I don't know anything about market stuff, but the jacket was failry easy to get. How does 50k crowns sound to you?
Frosty and hallow stuff are still relatively cheap, there were a lot of them during those events since you didn't have to pay for those boxes.
Sorry, no can do with the 50k crowns. I've only just recently gotten "into the swing" of things, and to give you an idea my life's savings right now is 397 CE and 6k crowns. That's what I meant by "Spiral hobo". -_-
I appreciate the insights, Flowchart.
Now, I am kind of perplexed as to why I can't just go to some magical NPC to purchase other starter armors. I mean, OOO never even gave me a chance to get a flak jacket; that's just what really gets me annoyed. I mean, other games I play (Even Runescape! Really! Runescape!) usually don't end up leaving old players out of new starter content.
Don't let anyone try and scam you or something *cough*50kwtf*cough*
Frosty/Hallow Flak Jackets are cheap. Really cheap.
Well that won't stop me from QQing a storm about this whole flak jacket in the first place. Why can a fresh-out-of-the-pod player get something that I, a long-time-ish player, can't ever hope to obtain? Why must they do this to me...it's a conspiracy, gotta get my tinfoil hats...
OOO promised us a way to get them and other proto-gear outside of starting a new account... but they have not delivered, and people have excused them for wording their responses a certain way. So no, you may not have a flak jacket.
I'm not so much scamming as not having a clue. I recall paying 40k for a hallow flak jacket like a week after that event, and that was the cheapest I saw it up for.
Mind telling us how much I should actually be charging for it or is everyone going to keep being really cryptic about it and just say it's "really cheap"?
Well I don't know much about selling flak jackets myself, but if today's CE-cr rates are at about 7000 cr per 100 CE, which I believe them to be, then the most Zeddy can charge him at the moment is about 28k cr. Which is rather far off from what he wanted in the first place. This is, of course, not counting whatever Dirigible's been farming but either way I'm guessing you'll have to sell low, Zeddy. However, Dirigible, if you really want it cheap you can make an alt, give it some cheap armor and unbind its flak jacket for 100CE and trade it to your main.
You've tried it yourself? Because as far as I'm aware, you can unbind any armor as long as it is not currently equipped. I could easily be wrong though.
I was actually in fact thinking the exact thing with the unbinding proto armors, but I went to see Vise and found no 0* tickets last night. It was (and still is) tragic.
As a relatively oldschool knight, I feel your pain. It is true that there is no way to unbind a 0star item to trade from an alt. Your best bet is to check the auction house or hope a friendly knight like Zeddy is willing to sell you the piece. 40-50k sounds about right for the flak jacket, although other pieces of frosty/hallow stuff might be way easier to come by.
The real reason I am replying is because I was puzzled by your predicament. Costumes can get expensive, especially with accessories and whatnot. 50k cr doesn't take long for any FSC-grinding-veteran to come up with. This costume is not out of reach! Why not just grind the crowns?
If you don't have FSC access yet, why not just start an alt, and switch your mats/ce/cr over to it? Either way, there's hope for your flak jacket costume yet! :D
Yeah, grinding the crowns sounds like an idea, I guess, but I mean it's still so ironic that I'm doing all this work for a tiny piece of beginner equipment. I just see no point to it all, ya know? I'd rather spend the crowns on something that actually affects my gameplay, but I know that the longer I wait the more expensive it's going to get...ergh, the choices I have to make!
Just to avoid you from getting in a bad situation,you can wait for the Events to come by and start grinding tokens to buy Treasure Boxes and hope you get a Flak Jacket for (pratically) free.And the reason that guy was giving such a high price is because frosty jackets are usualy(if not,only) obtainable in the Winterfest event( it is in December),wich is REEEEEAAAALY far away ,so things of that type get realy expensive while the events far
Hope that helps :)
Everyone says my price was high but noone says what I should be actually charging for it. What is it high compared to? 30k? 20k? 100 crowns? 2 gel drops? Should I be giving the man money for taking my flak jacket? I would honestly like to know, over here.
I've been making 60k daily for the past week or so, and as such I must ask for some understanding that I don't find 50k to be all that much.
60k daily
Oh great Zeddy, God of the Clockworks and Shards, teach me how to earn so much in a day.
For the rest, I totally agree with you. I smell some Valve time being pumped trough the Steam Servers into the OOO office.
@Dirigible, Flowchart, Zeddy
Touche. I should've seen that.
@Zeddy
Just friend the guy and you can bargain it out in-game. It'd be a lot faster and people nearby will probably tell you if it's a ripoff or too cheap. Especially if you bargain near the AH. If you aren't using it anyways you might as well make a profit from it. 2 gel drops is still profit if I'm seeing that right as you just got it for free over Christmas. Personally, I'd go for 40-50 but I know squat about market trends in SK. No, make that market trends anywhere.
@Infernoburner
Right? I'm doing about 10k and that's whenever I get on for a long time.
Two vana runs per day while dragging two alts. I hit 1.1 million today and threw it all away on a Book of Dark Rituals. It was considerably less of a grind than the actual Kataclysm was.
I've got a frosty flak jacket laying around in my inventory if you want one.
I dunno much about market shenanigans, but I'm sure we can work out a reasonable price for it.
