Well, I don't know about the switching...

But perhaps I can help with the movement issue.
What I've done, and it seems to work well for me, is map a key to 'Move Backwards'. For you, I'd guess a key like E or Q would be easiest to reach. Perhaps even Right Mouse could be an option, unless that's what you use to fire. I'm not sure, you didn't list it.
This allows me to retreat while firing off some shots, and helps with corners somewhat. Why? Because, the knight still follows the cursor-just backwards.
If you do go about this, get used to it with the ATH, a GTH, or t1 before using it in t2 or 3. You have to pay attention to both the monsters and the hazards, which could be a problem for some.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the post,

Thanks for the post, blake.
Think I need to edit my thread a bit more. I actually do pretty well in pve with switching, but when it comes to pvp, I am way off.

When I try moving sideways while gun shooting, I can only really move one direction (let's say left)(using my 4th finger to press the "a" key. I use my "a" key to move left, while I press z and space bar to shoot and switch. It doesn't work out well for me, though, since I can only move one way that way.

Any more posts will be greatly appreciated and welcomed wit free hugs (>^u^)>

I use WASD to move, cursor to aim, left and right mouse buttons to shield/dash/cloak and attack, and scroll wheel to change weapons. I think most players have the same set-up, though it works the best with a swordsman loadout. I've managed to train myself to shield-switch drivers with this keybinding but how I do it is honestly a stupid way and I don't think anyone else should follow in my footsteps, LOL.

If OP is still following the thread, here's what I use (requires a 5-button mouse with left, right, wheel and 2 thumb buttons):
Lclick: Action
Rclick: Shield
Wclick: Dash
Thumb1: Weapon 3 (alchemer 1)
Thumb2: Weapon 2 (alchemer 2)
Space: Weapon 1 (support: bomb or blitz)
WASD: movement
Lshift: Shield bash

Once battle sprites come out I'll probably map nearby keys like Q, E, R to sprite abilities. This setup has you clicking up a storm, but I find it works very well for me. Lclick - Rclick - Thumb2 - Lclick - Rclick - Thumb1 - repeat as needed. My knight is basically a mobile turret with independent 360 degree mobility and targeting, since my movement hand is completely independent of my switching and aiming.

Ditto

I use WASD for movement and remapped the switching button to... U. I think. It's in ESC - Settings - Controls, something like that. Since my mouse finally died on me, I've been using the trackpad on my Macbook.

Be jealous. You know you are. Of my mad trackpad skillz.

Thanks Blueflood. I was trying to gun against you in LD (Kiryufazer), and I can see why keeping attack and movement separate would be a good idea xD
