hi,
i want to put an armor as my goal, i really like snarbalox set but some people said it's not good as a first 5* armor.
so im not sure what armor should i go for??
what armor should go for first?
it is really dependent on your interest.
if you're good player and status doesnt effect your much - a chaos set is probably the best.
with the set you're given ctr vh + dmg vh on all weapons. all weapons already come with ctr med when fully heated therefore you will be able to obtain ctr max
the problem is that i don't use a mix of weapons, im planning on getting 3 swords (shadow/pierce/elemental) and 1 gun to use when im low on health
plus im not very good at dodging things so chaos armor would destroy me
thanks, seems nice
hmm, what shield should i go for btw?
EDIT: sry i meant shield
Anything BESIDES the cobalt line.
And the wolver line, because it's way overused. and ugly.
You mean anything besides Aegis.
Heater shield is a useful shield. Why no-one uses it I'll never know, maybe because people don't like its look?
In my opinion, the cheapest, most well rounded armor, is Angelic helm + Drake Scale mail
First of all, it starts at 3* instead of 2*. Cheap.
At 5*, you will have a medium fiend bonus and a medium beast bonus. These are the two enemies that are weak to piercing. So if you carry one elemental and one shadow weapon, you'll have damage-effectiveness or a medium damage bonus against all enemies. So you only need to make two weapons. Cheap.
It offers equal amounts of all four defenses, and has no status weakness. Well rounded.
You also get some poison and curse resistance. Curse prevents you from attacking, poison decreases your attacks damage and keeps you from healing. Dealing effective damage and healing are things you'll want to do allot with this set.
So it's got average, well rounded defense, with a slightly damage oriented build when you consider its status resistances and logical monster bonuses. Plus it looks sexy.
As for a shield, I'd make VPS. VPS is the only 5*shield I own, and I don't plan on ever really making anything else.
OP didn't say shields....
And yeah I guess heater shield isn't terrible like aegis is, but most people overlook it in favor of owlite.
He asked for shields in a later comment
Now why didn't I think of Angelic and Drake when I was making my way though the ranks? :/
Also, let's be honest here, Curse doesn't stop people from attacking: it just hurts to attack.
/r OP: If you want another well rounded set suggestion, try the Divine Veil, which resists Curse, Fire and Shock, as well as universally boosting damage vs Fiends, and Skolver, since you prefer swords.
As for shields, I concur with Orangeo with the Volcanic Plate Shield: It's quite tough and resists fire. As for other choices, the Heater Shield resists more normal damage than Grey Owlite at the cost of some elemental defense. The former also has Freeze resist, while the latter sports Shock and Fire resist. While apparently the Omega Shell is underpowered (it only has high health and normal defense), if you can get a resist UV on it, it could be a good choice, although you'll have to decide on whether you'll take that gamble.
Oh, and one last thing: if you're going for Angelic/Drake, then build and upgrade the Drake armour first before you do the helm; the Drake armour negates the Angelic line's weakness to fire.
If you've played through the game, it's not totally worth it to go back and get Angelic + Drake. It's just a good cheap getting-there armor since it starts at 3* and decreases the need of a third weapon, and it's got no real weaknesses. Plus it looks sexy.
If you are making Angelic + Drake, make the drake armor, not the helmet. The armors recipe can be reused to make silvermail, but the helmets can't be made into anything else at all. Gives you a few more future options.
The main problem with the set is that it doesn't have net fire resist like Vog. Most people suggest using at least one piece of gear that can be made into a volcanic piece for FSC grinding.
If you're a boss grind kinda guy, Chroma and then Salamander can actually be an OK choice. Starts at 3*, so it's cheaper, and it's great for RJP right off the bat. Plus, you only need it to be at 4* for it to statistically look like a volcanic piece, unlike other volcanic lines that don't get fire resistance until they're 5*. So you can grind through FSC earlier than most. Plus salamander is used to make pretty shadow lair armor. Of course, having Chroma as your only set is kinda limiting for obvious reasons.
Curse resistance is virtually a non-issue unless you like spamming GF charges. And even if you do, even one weapon slot upgrade will keep you from being helpless
I've found that having said "well rounded" armor set gets you killed faster. You're better off getting a fully offensive armor set and learning to dodge. That and half-defense against all monsters really isn't useful. Even if it is cheaper, it's not as effective as going fully offensive. Also, it's not cheaper because you're going to need to go to the fully offensive sets afterward. It ends up costing more because you're getting a set that will be useless at endgame. Also, starting at 2* is not more expensive. Mist craft the set and wait a day. Boom.
While I'd somewhat agree with the partial defenses, nobody needs fully offensive armour, even if it is more effective: a player can still get through the game in Skelly or Plate if they so choose, and keep to the same set even in the endgame. Personally, I have the Veil and Volcanic Plate Mail, and I have no inclination of getting Wolver beyond my Dusker Cap.
And, while I did agree with that last sentence, I remembered that you get the Cobalt set for free. That and the crafting costs, while minimal, are still there, meaning if a player wants to they can stick with this set until they get the funds for the 3* Specialist pieces and not bother with 2* crafting.
/r Everyone: Off Topic, but is anyone getting "validation errors" when they preview comments? I keep getting them a lot, and it's P'ing me off to copy-paste every freaking word I've said just so I don't have to type it out again.
On topic (Perhaps), here's a pic of the two armours worn together. Probably not aesthetically pleasing, but there you go.
@Batibii
If you exploit the GF glitch, you become curse-resistant pretty much. (Not sure if they patched it since I do not own a faust). Don't feel like explaining how to do the glitch. If you want to become curse resistant or make Darkfire Vanaduke easier than regular vanaduke, go dumpster diving in the Bug reports. It is there sonewhere...
And to the ToS tools, I don't own a GF/Faust, so you can't report me for glitch abuse. Go on, try to come up with another reason to flame this.
@Batibii
Oh I know, curse resist is in no way a selling point. Just a little meh-bonus. To be honest, fiend armor should have a curse weakness instead of ressistance to separate it from undead armor. I feel like angelic should have poison and shock resist, and a curse weakness. All curse enemies are undead, it makes no sense to have that resist on a fiend piece.
@Malsvirbranea
Well rounded defense is actually more helpful than you'd think. You can take a higher average amount of hits than something with specialized defense. With jelly, I can take quite a few hits from piercing enemies, but I die really quickly vs anything else. When I'd use specialized armor, the last hit would always deal juuust enough damage to kill me, but with my well rounder armor
@Gravelord-Caste
It matches at the 3* level and if you make crown of the fallen.
Good or not, I THINK that the pieces fit together intentionally; that's why they got proto versions, etc. Plus they existed during the time before flourishes, where having bonuses towards beasts and fiends would have been very useful.
Fallen armor was POSSIBLY intended as PvP substitute for Valkyrie since it has a damage decrease vs a monster + a weapon bonus, it would balance out the wasted bonus dragon scale mail would have if used in PvP. Plus it matches, so you could wear it as a costume in PvE, when you actually want valks monster bonus, then use it as your actual helmet in PvP and not have to worry about costumes being banned. Although using any of those items in PvP nowadays would be a terrible idea.
Anyone else agree? Is it a secret set (even if it's bad or outdated), or am I crazy?

Thanks for the link Hex. I'm not sure if that curse bug is the same one I knew about, because of the date, but it might be.
If that's the case, then the ToS excerpt is pointless since I hinted at a hug that doesn't exist anymore.
So I sort of "encouraged" people to use a bug (even though no explanations were given on how to do it), but the bug doesn't exist anymore, so nobody can use it...
I'd call this one a draw.
I'll try to see if it still works once I get an asi med faust to spam in lockdown k?
Went dumpster diving and found the thread. It was created in bug reports before 2/28/11 (date of the patch link you showed me), so yeah. Bug was fixed, doesn't exist anymore!!
I would link the thread here, but I would have to ask a GM if I am allowed to link patched bug threads to GD. Rather not risk having someone finding a variation of the bug and blaming it on me.

Magic set is a good starter line, it has fire and shock resist as well as elemental, which are the most dangerous and common statuses/damage types. Once you get to 4*, decide if you want to play it risky and get Chaos, or play it safe and get Gray Feather or Divine.
Shield... Plate shield line is good. Probably Volcanic.
No Comment. Well, my comment is that I don't have a comment.....yea.
Full chaos with fire resist UVs on both pieces. It'll help you earn cr faster to make your real fav sets.
Does anyone else think devs made angelic and drake fit together on purpose? See my last post for details ;_;
Chaos cloak + divine veil would be my recommendation, given that you use a mix of bombs, swords, and guns.
