ok so ive been reading through stuff in the general discussions and stuff about sprite attacks and normal attacks have been going on but this is not what this topic is about ... anyway, so yeah, ive been reading through this topic and read this particular post http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/85658#comment-759541 and read the thing about the shield, so if this is true that the shield is a defensive generator, I am suggesting that the front part of the shield should be of use as a shield and not a simple fragile generator ......
so yeah, could we have it that the area of the shield be unli-defense (not really) but only on that area where the shield is positioned? having the shield broken for example, we can then use our shield to block frontal attacks but the shield generator would not recharge as it is used and decreases its recharge as damage is taken and damage can be taken from the back ..... this would justify the shield's use as a material defensive item
idk, its just a suggestion .... any comments on why this is bad or good?
yeah i think itll make the shield too overpowered .... but not in the case of swarms of enemies .... hmm maybe make it that we cant move when using the shield when the shield generator is broken (but able to rotate)?
also, when the recharging shield retains no more energy (the blue bar) and is used as being clobbered by a Lumber, for example, the thing consumed is health but less damage (that is if the shield is facing the attacker)
so basically, when the shield breaks, it initially has no blue bar-thing and the user would then take less damage if the shield is facing the attacker/attack than when not facing the attacker/attack (that is when the shield can not compensate for the attack) ..... the shield is useless until it completely regenerates, but with my suggestion added, the shield can still be used provided that the blue bar has partially recovered and the shield is facing the attack and the blue bar would be consumed again like a normal shield would and the user can not move when using a broken shield to be able to take the impact but can rotate
so yeah, pls consider it ^_^ ... im bracing myself for negative reactions :3 and i welcome logical opinions on the matter (and i apologize for the poor organization of thoughts resulting in a long(?) post)
also, ive added that there is more defense when being damaged as the shield is being broken when facing the enemy/attack
so, this is mostly like a suggestion for refinement of the shield's function

It does make the shield overpowered.
However, there was a suggestion once that asked for a shield that prevents movement when raised, (cough, Stop Sign, cough) but creates a very high-health shield in a 120 degree arc infront of the player.
