For those who don't know - Menders had in beta/early game attack, what look like that

Small idea, but why the hell not?

Menders should be able to defend themsleves. Also gives time to kill them and they wont just be dodging.

Yes, but only as a rare attack.

Gremlin menders in tier 3 are already annoying enough

no they aren't

@OP: this made it well past beta, it was just removed a year ago because kids were butthurt about being challenged in a game that they thought was supposed to tell them that they were doing such a good job whacking sitting ducks on the head

Alright, I guess this is the part where I play the antagonist.

Menders used to be able to deal damage by whacking people with their wands, for one. Sometimes they bugged out and decided to keep attacking in a straight line. They also had an "ember bolt" attack where they pointed their wand as if to heal something, but instead they would shoot an elemental-damage projectile.

The problem with both of these? There was no way to tell what they were going to do. They could just keep healing something as you get close or they could smack you instead. Instantly. There was no fun in fighting them- like today, you usually need to take them out first, except sometimes you would randomly take damage for no reason besides you got unlucky. This made them extremely frustrating to fight.

It's a little like spiked Toxigels in T3. Their projectile spin attack is totally random- you might get hit, you might not. But unlike older versions of Menders, you have a very forgiving amount of time to back off to avoid the spin damage and to get ready to dodge any heat-seeking spikes. They're annoying, but not nearly as much.

Enemies need to get smarter, but making them have no counterplay is even worse than having them be child's play.

+1 but only allow them to use it once. They can not use it again even if revived.

@Blitzsonic, nobody forces you to play elite, meh.

@Draycos,
"The problem with both of these? There was no way to tell what they were going to do. They could just keep healing something as you get close or they could smack you instead.

Life.
It's a war. On war all tricks are allowed.
OOO is incumbent to recognize if diffrent animation is necessary. I only want bolt. :I

And you all should remember, it's idea only for elite/advanced - because difficiluty levels should have get some changes in gameplay. As person who spent 1,5k hours with that game im still insatiate (I'm sure, not only me).

@Usevnsevnsixfivfor, hm, thats not bad idea.
I would set limit to 2 on advanced and 4 on elite, huh.

I don't think you understand what I'm trying to say. Difficulty in Elite should increase by making enemies smarter, yes, but not in a way that makes it so it's based on chance rather than skill.

Let's not forget that Menders shout "Mending!" whenever they heal someone. They could keep the same animation if Three Rings made them shout something else like "Take this!" if they're winding up for a bolt.

If you read this interesting thread

VERY old, around the third to last page, it will state that gremlins are broken. Specificlly the menders, their bolt was HEATSEEKING, which made that fairly unfair. And apparently, it did more-than-reasonable damage. So will you implement that, or just do a basic missile that shoots straight?

Depends on how OOO can code their AI and whetever they upgrade it or not.
Heal spam is more annoying than a tiny bolt or smack.

I'd say that this change could make some rooms easier instead (as long as party doesn't have VV or 4 maskeraiths :P)

Some checks, like:
Is mender alone? ->firebolt
80% of nearby monsters at full health? ->firebolt
50% of nearby monsters poisoned? ->firebolt

I like most of what you said but the posion part upset me a bit. Posoin is the only counter to menders and really doesen't do much else as the armor reduction at times doesen't help. At least make it 75% just so it can do its job please.

I, for one, would honestly welcome a gremlin mender smacking me with its wrench wand with open arms.
Of course, because it's a wrench wand being wielded by a frail gremlin, it shouldn't be a fatal blow at 100% health as it previously was. They can keep the animation though. Keep y'all on your toes and such.
