The game is unplayable right now... We need better servers, we can't have that amount of players with those servers.
OOO should stop making stupid promos and features and make better servers.
We need better servers...
More servers would be nice. Maybe the reason why Three Rings has been so quiet is because they're rewriting the backend to scale on demand with EC2 or somesuch. That's almost certainly wishful thinking, but a man can dream.
Guess what. Servers cost money. What do promos bring in?
Oh, but don't they? First person to monetize forum rants = $$$.
Does sega support OOO in some way?
Also if promos generate income than I don't care.
I don't know if "support" is quite the right word. They'll only sink money into OOO to the extent that OOO is making them money. And to be honest, less lag probably won't make OOO much more money. Some, but not much.
I'd be interested to know what it would cost to add another server, actually. If OOO put on a promo that was specifically and exclusively aimed at covering those costs, and gave the community a bar to fill and some exclusive items for those who helped, they'd probably see the costs covered in no time. It'd be the Kickstarter of Spiral Knights.
i had a lot of lag so I took of a load of graphical settings and turned down the graphics to low this may help a lot
What SEGA needs to do is to advertise the new Spiral Knights so that we get a flood of players through a mainstream system rather than having OOO make a bunch of partnerships with half-unknown websites. Ads are what brings consumers in, jus' sayin. But before that happens, yes, the servers need to be fixed.
Yeah, I don't see much for ads, now that I think about it.
Really though, Spiral Knights has, or had, at least 3 million players. It's probably quite a bit more by now, as that was around a year ago. If they can keep all of those players, and have the majority spending $10 a year, along with that small percentage that drops anywhere from hundreds up, they should be able to cover all their costs. At least, I assume. I have no idea what OOO's costs are.
The problem with that is then you get a bunch of idiot kids running around. I deal with that all the time in various fangames, and it lowers the signal-to-noise ratio to the point where the signal basically doesn't exist anymore.
I agree with the Kickstarter bit. Hey, why don't we all send support mails about how much money it would take to beef up server capacity? Then we can start a for-realz Kickstarter and Three Rings can get our money directly.
@Bushido
Yes, SEGA does advertise Spiral Knights in Facebook and their official forums, but the problem is, the fans, who act like Idiots and comment "GIVE US SHENMUE 3" "WE WANT SONIC ADVENTURE 3" "BRING PSO2 TO AMERICA" really doesn't help anything...
Over 2 million players with no content for endgame players. It's been 3 years; does OOO even know the definition of an "expansion"? And no, Operation Crimson Hammer is not an expansion, it's just an added mission. A real expansion would be adding another giant arcade clockworks with a higher difficulty and different scenery. That is what a real expansion to an MMO is.
Apparently, the company is having money difficulties if they have such a big player base, about half of World of Warcraft's population, since they seem to continue to make partnerships and continue to only focus on fixing and editing newbie introduction stuff in the game, because the prime reason that I see that OOO would care so much for beginner content is due to new players loosing interest in the game, they don't even experience all of the stuff that the game has to offer (this is before the big update change). I'm guessing that the update was made because OOO finally realized that changing stuff around with the rescue camp and adding training halls and more tutorials wasn't helping much in locking the attraction of potential newbies.
They probably hesitated on that decision a lot because I bet Nick didn't want an army of 13 year old elitists spamming nonsense on the forums, complaining x10 about the game and how horrible the company OOO is (nexon has such a terrible community; i've become an ageist against teenagers and kids because of my experience on those forums). I can understand why they do not want to make ads for Spiral Knights, yes, I do agree that they have more control over the community of their games by not putting up ads and making the game mainstream; if you think about it, OOO actually stands out from the typical company.
If OOO really just wanted to make money, they would just go ahead and advertise their game out to the public, bringing in an immense variety of different types of players. The Spiral Knights community would go to horse manure; we'd have all types of ungrateful, greedy elitists everywhere. The community would be much more extreme if that were to happen; OOO actually cares about the game and the community because they don't do public advertising. We could become the next Maplestory or WoW community, but we haven't, and it's thanks to the way OOO takes care of the game.
Well, some people can, including me, can invite some people in, but then thinkin' 'bout it, they aren't as patient.
Screw servers, the forge needs to be fixed.
Depends. If you're FSC grinding or farming missions, then I have no sympathy for you. Go do some actual gates, or spam Arenas if you want to minmax.
>*insert your post here*
But I do that. ...All of it .-.
Focus your brainpower on thinking of fixes for the atrocity that is the Forge, and not spend a post blabbering about things I do. Do you watch me 24/7?
"Operation Crimson Hammer is not an expansion, it's just an added mission. A real expansion would be adding another giant arcade clockworks with a higher difficulty and different scenery."
Wow....just wow
@Bushido-Brownies:
Over 2 million players with no content for endgame players.
We have 2million "registered" players, but we can safely assume that 1/3 or 2/3 of that has left the game before reaching Haven. I hardly think that SK's active population is above 300,000 players.
I think there are too many server reboots, because one time with one of my newer characters I was fighting the snarlbolax (or snarlbox or whatever) a server reboot stopped me from killing it and after that I was mad so that I died on the first floor of that mission.
Lol, we only had 2-3 consecutive reboots and it happened only once because of the big sprite update.
Daily reboots/patches are announced 90 minutes earlier and always at the same hour (you can anticipate them).
Besides who says it's the servers? Maybe the game code has a leak.
This also goes to Contri and the original thread. I feel that we could buy the best servers possible, but the game will still lag due to bugs :/
You can't just "make" better servers either. It's not lego. Hosting something as big as Spiral Knights is both complicated and expensive. We're all tired of the lag Contri, and maybe one day there will at least be more servers to help distribute the load a little better.
