If you're going to suggest one of the most oversuggested ideas in the book, at least put some detail into it so it seems more valuable than the other derpbillion spear threads that we've had so far.

New Class?
If we had a hammer as a sword class weapon, a spear weapon like that would likely just be a sword class weapon. It would not ever be a whole entire class itself.

I agree with what @Cyderiax said above ^. We can classify the current weapon classes into much more vague versions, such as:
-Melee Weapons (Swords)
-Ranged Weapons (Guns)
-AoE/Blow-the-living-daylights-out-of-them Weapons (Bombs)
---
And yes, your suggestion is lacking in detail :/
