I'm fairly certain the engine can support this, and I think it would be interesting. The bonuses would only be active while the weapon in question is out.

These bonuses would not be available as UVs. Just as you can't get fiend damage UVs on your armour, you can't get fire resistance UVs on your sword.

  • Wild Hunting Blade would provide high piercing defence.
  • Cautery Sword gives high normal defence.
  • Cold Iron Vanquisher would give high fire resistance.
  • Argent Peacemaker provides medium shadow defence.
  • Sentenza gives medium elemental defence.
  • Heavy Deconstructor gives low MSI.

Sun Shards and Shocking Salt don't get anything 'cause they have statuses already.

Why would weapons give you a

Why would weapons give you a defensive bonus??

The bonuses would only be active while the weapon in question is out.

So every time when I'm about to be hit by a pierce-damage dealing monster, I could just switch to the WHB; my defense would spike up and I'd take less damage?

  • Wild Hunting Blade would provide high piercing defence. - I'd say that this should be medium pierce defence.
  • Cautery Sword gives high normal defence. - Fine, this weapon needs buffing anyway.
  • Cold Iron Vanquisher would give high fire resistance. - Medium fire resistance, it already has a variant.
  • Argent Peacemaker provides medium shadow defence. - Fine.
  • Sentenza gives medium elemental defence. - Fine.
  • Heavy Deconstructor gives low MSI. - Sure, Why not.

@Fallen-Night

"Why would weapons give you a defensive bonus??"

I dunno, why would armour give you an offensive bonus???????????

"So every time when I'm about to be hit by a pierce-damage dealing monster, I could just switch to the WHB; my defense would spike up and I'd take less damage?"

Yes, though why you'd do that instead of putting up your shield or dashing is beyond me. The idea is to let you play a bit more agressively amongst wolver packs using the sword.

@Youval

If I interpreted your post correctly, and I honestly don't know if I did, you're worried about the old bonuses on these weapons being removed. The suggested defensive bonuses are in addition to whatever bonuses they already have.

@Thunder-The-Bright

...maybe.

Look at a Torika. Now back to me. My Torika is purple, it also provides a all defnse bonus high. Now back to you. Your Torika is not purple nor dose it provide you any defense. Why? You are not using it as a shield. Now back to me. I'm tiding a sinister skellly knight like a motercycle with my purple Torika. Now back to you. Now your Torika also defends you and is rainbow colored. Why? You started using it like a second shield.

I hope the idea I'm trying to get across is clear.

What about nightblade and gravitron? They don't really need it but they lack something compared to their elemental counterparts.

Okay fine, you people win. No defensive bonuses for weapons because you're not using a weapon as armour.

I should have just said what I meant.

WAHT NO, Zeddy, I meant that the Troikas is big and fat and totally should also work AS A SHIELD. It would make sense as it is meant as it is the tank sword. I said "You aren't using it as I shield." as a way to point out that at the moment we aren't even though it would make allot of sense to use such a massive thing to block hits.
This would be a good way to buff the Iron Slug. It too could get pure "all defense" to make it worth using.
If it wasn't mentioned the WHB and DVS should provide some movement speed seeing how the weapons have such short range but are built to basically make you a piranha. They should also get attack rate instead of CDR from leveling to be honest.

I'm bad at this.

I'm a derp. This whole time I thought the Torika was the 5 star one. I meant the Sudaruska. Tell me that something that massive, that bulky wouldn't be able to take a hit with out even chipping one of its crack. The thing is larger then some shields! It could totally make a difference with how much damage you take while you have it out, maybe not high but still a notable amount.

I would not be opposed to MSI on cutters, I've got to say.

Iron Slug, I think I'd just want buffed offensively.

Personally.

I think they shouldn't apply this idea to those weapons. I think they should make more weapons that have more defensive abilities.

Like a shield with a spike on it, because duel wielding shields would be cool.
Or maybe Weapons that are like the Valiance. That thing has a bayonet, but it has no practical use. You could make a weapon with an over-compensating hand guard, much like rapiers have but made more "spiral knights-like" to add meaning to it.

Just an idea, though.

a list of silly ideas ready to be ripped apart.

Just a list of ideas for buffs that I think go with the weapon. Tell me watcha think.
P.S. I don't really know what shard bombers could use a balance so I'm just guessing its the ones with out the status but I'm not sure :l
Feel free to let me know.
Sword first, then bombs, and finally handguns.
-
Sudaruska defensive buff: BLOCK! Increases armor in all defense types but normal based on how high your current normal defense is or just a flat amount in all defense types.
-
Furious Flamburg neutral buff: Burning Rage. After attacking a enemy that is on fire gain a temporary attack speed buff for 3 seconds. The attack rate buff stacks, the time only resets when you hit them again.
-
Fearless Rigadoon neutral buff: Swagger'n'Stagger. Attack an enemy that is currently stunned provides a temporary movment speed buff for 3 seconds. Buff stacks up to high, so 5 times (this means if you have armor that provides MSI you can still get max with this buff) while the time resets per hit.
-
Winmillion neutral buff: Wind Walker. Gain movement speed and attack rate every time a projectile hits an enemy. Buff lasts for 4 seconds. Effect stacks, time resets. Oh, also freaking make the range on the dam projectiles longer for at least switches and such, maybe make them lose damage and fade out after a distance.
-
Dread Venom Striker. Neutral Buff: Sickening Stride. Gain movement speed when ever a ghost blade hits. Buff provided from the sword maxes at high and lasts for 5 seconds. Can gain bonus time but maxes at 7 and requires your movement speed bonus from the sword to be at high.
-
Wilder Hunting Blade. Offensive Buff: Pack Brutalizer. Gain attack speed when ever a ghost blade hits. Buff from this effect maxes at high and lasts for 6 seconds. Bonus time not available but does reset on hit.
-Bombs-bombs-bombs-bombs-bombs-
-Bombs-bombs-bombs-bombs-bombs-
Deadly Crystal Bomb Neutral buff: Druid Shards. Gain movement speed while standing on a shard. Effect does not stack and is lost once you are no longer on the shard, this could be from it detonating or you moving.
-
Deadly Shard Bomb Defensive buff: Reinforced Rocks. Gain normal defense while standing on shards form this bomb.
-
Stagger Storm neutral buff: Where you Belong: Gain bonus movement speed while in your own stun cloud. Effect does not stack and ends when you leave the cloud.
or
Guard Dropper: Enemy players stunned by a stagger storm have their shield disabled. Why this? Its the PvP mist bomb. This bomb would probably be really good if it wasn't for the fact we have the power shields. It allows players to completely disregard the Stagger Storm. It of all bombs should be the most notable in effect for PvP seeing how it can be only gained from doing PvP.
-
IronTech Destroyer. Offensive Buff: Metal Massacre. Gain attack damage buff and rtd buff every time you kill any enemy using this bomb for 3 seconds. Effect stacks and so does time.
-
Graviton Vortex. Neutral Buff: Vortex Master. Gain bonus movement speed while in the suction radius of the bomb. This effect does stack but ends once you are no longer in a vortex you planted. You can hope from vortexes to keep it going but it would need to be your own.
-guns-guns-guns-guns-guns-
-guns-guns-guns-guns-guns-
Super Nova. Offensive Buff: Sticky Trigger. 30% chance of for the charge attack to fire 2 orbs instead of just 1 in quick succession.
-
Nuetralizer. Offensive Buff: Sticky Trigger. Same as above.
-
Iron Slug Offensive buff: Relenting assault, 50% chance to not have to reload once clip is emptied.
-
Volcanic Pepper Box. Neutral buff: Molten Mobility. Can move while shooting at a reduced movement speed. Moving will make all shots go in a straight line with some straying instead of a cone.

Whelp that's my list. I was tempted to put on for the Valiance but really I think its fine. Maybe it could get Relenting Assault but that's really all I could think it could need.

+1, and Cutter MSI was one of the first things to pop into my head too. It was after Spur.

Druid Shards and unpredictable Cutter MSI are pretty cute, but "relenting assault" is utterly brilliant; encourage user to go full-combo on the Magnus for an unpredictable chance to avoid the relent which a savvy user would simply avoid the way we've always done.
