I think that we should scrap the possibility of needing a key to continue with a level, and instead use them to open up Treasure Rooms. So whenever you get a Golden Key there won't be just 1 gate. You can choose which gate to open. I'm not sure what else you could do but make it an option between Treasure Boxes/possibly Heart Boxes and Minerals. Or you could make Heart Boxes a separate room and keep mineral areas gateless.
New idea for Golden Keys.
In Scarlett Fortress there is a Key for every Gate. I'm suggesting that you make a choice here in the general Clockwork Tunnels.
I know that, I'm saying they've kinda done this already, is all.
Come to think of it, I remember seeing a certain party button area in the Clockworks that lets you choose between treasure boxes and hearts, though that doesn't involve keys.
No one will open the heart rooms.
And I'm not saying it only because the game is too easy with a free emergency revive and all..... treasure boxes can drop sparks, wich are better than a heart or pill.
You won't always be on low health when you have to choose this, parties might fight and lead to unpleasant situations too. It's not worth it.
Sparks don't drop all the time. It isn't a 'very' common drop.
Also are you saying that if you do agree with this idea that Minerals should have a gate?
Note that Heart boxes can also drop Pills/Capsules.

So you want to make it impossible to finish a run if one person/troll in the party decides to use the key on the treasure room instead of allowing you to continue to the Battle Arena the next depth down?
"So you want to make it impossible to finish a run if one person/troll in the party decides to use the key on the treasure room instead of allowing you to continue to the Battle Arena the next depth down?"
Why would it be impossible? It's currently a possibility that you will find a Golden Key in a level and sometimes you'll need that key to progress through the level. I'm saying to forget about that, so there ISN'T a possibility of needing a Key to progress. Instead, make multiple rooms require a Golden key so you choose which gate to want to open.
Surely this is better than grabbing a Key and moving it 15 metres to it's Gate...
You mean something like this?
Or do you want to make it so that the key is only ever used for treasure rooms and never for required progression like it sometimes is.
Because most times you're simply just going round the corner. Whereas if you had multiple gates people could choose which room they'd like to open, making the Key more useful.
There are some Scarlet Fortress levels that have multiple keys, so you can speed through them or take your time and get extra loot. I'd like to see more of that myself.
