Subject says it all, personally, I hope we get to fight more of the crimson order, and maybe even King Tinkinzar, along with all the Swarm-based bosses we will almost certainly get.
Speculation/Hopes for mission rank 10-1 and beyond?
You DID pay attention to the story right? And why not explore more of the Gremlin higher-ups? These guys are supposed to be one of if not THE main antagonists, so why have we only seen TWO of their higher-ranked people? and I mean cmon, we annihilated Ironclaw and the Grand Arsenal, I don't think the Gremlins are all like "Ehh, we're not even mad".
What else is there for us to do? Well, aside from the gremlin thing i mentioned above the big cliffhanger at depth 29 left everything and more for us to do. We still haven't opened the core, we still haven't found the Alpha Squad, and the inevitable crisis with The Swarm is getting all too close. There is SO MUCH that can be added with just these things.
"You DID pay attention to the story right?"
4th or 5th time now someone's said did I read it properly. I honestly can't remember if it's the 4th or 5th time now.
And it wouldn't make sense to add more missions because the last proper mission we reach the core, which is the Knights real goal.
"We still haven't opened the core"
And they (hopefully) won't, because it will literally kill the game.
Like Fryd said, there's still plenty to do. Gremlins, Swarm, and he didn't mention the fiends and the legion of Trojans waiting in the underworld haven't really been dealt with either. There are still plenty of threats to resolve.
"And it wouldn't make sense to add more missions because the last proper mission we reach the core, which is the Knights real goal."
This is where you are wrong, my friend, their REAL goal is to get back home, to get off cradle, which they have only taken the first step in doing. As Kora (and a few others I believe) have said, "this is only the beginning".
"And they (hopefully) won't, because it will literally kill the game."
Why so?
You still can't argue against my Gremlin and Swarm points (Alpha Squad), and I guess Khamsin has a point as well.
I don't see any reason OOO shouldn't add to the story in the future, not to mention that they have hinted at continuations so heavily in the end game.
I wish that to it would be cool and you would also see razhog again
Rather see more of the Nine...
Operation Crimson Hammer didn't have a specific depths, so why should the other Nine be located in a specific depth either.
I also want to see the SK artilery/cavalry/vehicles and/or larger scale battles. They tried to go for an epic scale with OCH but it just didn't really feel like it IMO. Too much of the fighting was off screen.
@Megaxdark, hmm, that would be an interesting boss. Maybe he had to have some parts of his body replaced with machinery? Would make an interesting boss fight, a vengeful cyborg.
@Traevelliath I totally agree.
Now that I think about it, that old artifact we found in the beginning of the game (the one in the lab) looks an awful lot like a key... to the core maybe? Hmm...
I'd like something like, the fiends get mad for their losses and try pull a dark matter asteroid to Haven but little do they know, the asteroid could blast up Cradle entirely. This could possibly result in a huge series of missions.
Well, while these all sound like good ideas, I still don't think it would fit into the storyline. I mean, the knights already finished their goal, which was to reach the Core, so all those ideas would be either Prestige, Expansion, or Event missions.
Some new rank missions with Gorgos or Mini-Monsters would be perfect, they haven't some missions where they are the 'protagonist'
we have to say: that "-1" after the number 10 in the rank would be very silly if it's not the clue that something bigger will come... If it's 10-1 so there will be also 10-2, ecc... but sadly I have to say that in a mail I sent to GMs they answeres that there are "so much things to see on Cradle"... or something like that, so I'm not so sure we will get away from this poopy artificial plane... However.... We can always discover who's in the core...
1. Gremlin King & Crimson Order
2. Underworld
3. Spiral Knights home-planet, they were forced off it by monsters, but maybe vanguards can return after they open the core!
Most people don't really think about the core much anymore but I have always hoped that exploring the core could be part of future content.
They said that there is something of immense power inside so it could be be something rather extreme. I always speculated perhaps it was a portal to another world perhaps a world similar to the clockworks.
And they (hopefully) won't, because it will literally kill the game.
jfc not this ssth again
Alpha Squad is inside the core, it opened for them because they were "gifted" knights.
The game revolves around YOU, so since of that, the core will probably open for you and you will meet the Alpha Squad (Guardians of the Core, possessed by the swarm itself)
It makes perfect sense if you read EVERY artifact.
@Shotjeer Actually, they would because the Knights always play the heroes and would want to save their own butts, wouldn't they?
@Shotjeer, again no they havent, their goal is to get off Cradle, which they haven't done yet. Why would simply reaching the core be their goal? Just because 'YOLO'? No, I don't think so.
We don't have to make up a bunch of events to add more content, ranks 10-1 and beyond are practically already there, OOO just has to bring them to life. We're still in conflict with the gremlins/crimson order/Tinkinzar, we still haven't opened the core to find the Alpha Squad, we still haven't had our inevitable crisis with The Swarm, and we're still stuck on Cradle. So many possibilities!
I read two goals of the Spiral Knights from this discussion: open core(to rescue alpha squad, presumably) and to go home to their own planet. How about this: in the core are blueprints on how to make a machine to go home (like a spaceship or some other vehicle), but the knights must still make the machine themselves? I remember the wiki saying how a long time ago, people could uselessly deposit minerals into the core. Well, now you would deposit materials, instead. If OOO is worried that this will "end"the game, then they can always make the number of materials required insanely high, so that it would take several years for the SK population to get the necessary mats. These mats would supposedly help build the spaceship.
Why does everyone act as if the Core will open up for us just because we may, emphasis on the "may", solve it's riddle. It is more likely that we will blindly open the Core, not thinking of how to actually use it's energy, and end up creating a worse catastrophe.
And thus the story will continue, with the Core no longer an option the Knights must now decide whether to pour all their resources into escaping this dying planet, or fight the evil we have inadvertently unleashed upon the world. And of course we will choose the latter, because hey! We're Knights! This is what we do.
At Frydhamster, the knights believe that the Core has the crap that they need to power the Skylark, so they do want to get to the core for that energy neccesary.
@Shotjeer, exactly, you just proved my point, their goal is to power the Skylark and get home, reaching the core is simply the first step in getting to that goal.
"We still haven't opened the core"
And they (hopefully) won't, because it will literally kill the game.
uhm...haven't they already established in game that they think they were wrong about the core...like....instead of being an enormous battery powered by the mother of all energizer bunnies, it is actually a big protective barrier for a powerful entity that is hiding from the swarm, which is why cradle was built...to deter anything from reaching the entity that is trying to protect itself inside the core? So maybe getting to the core and opening it doesn't mean plugging in the skylark so they can fly away, but rather the knights have to help protect the entity and save not just cradle, but the universe from the swarm which is described in the echo stones
"As I dreamed, it consumed. It devoured the knowledge of time... Memories of the dead... The hearts of kings and the souls of their people... Good and evil... It consumed. It grew stronger, endlessly mirroring itself within the space of my dream. Endlessly mirroring... Expanding... Infinite. What it was before, it is no more. Neither beast nor god, it is a creation unlike all. It is... The Swarm."
"I dream... Within my dream, I saw it open the void, felt its endless hunger. You are safe here, Knight. Within this dream, its many eyes cannot see you nor can its many arms reach you. But this dream is fleeting. Use what is here to prepare for the battle to come. It knows of you now. It will find a way out and come for you." "I dream... Within my dream, I see your legion, falling to this world like burning stars. You fall with purpose, burning ever brighter as you reach for the heart of this world. Hold dearly this fire in you, for darkness will consume all the night if its stars begin to fade." "This world was created to protect me. Vulnerable in slumber, worlds were drawn to shield me from the darkness. This world has become my prison. In his madness, the [architect] betrayed the pact. Twisting his creation into a game of death, it now devours all who enter its iron embrace."
hmmmmm....."use what is here to prepare for the battle to come", "I see your legion, falling to this world like burning stars. You fall with purpose, burning ever brighter as you reach for the heart of this world", "This world was created to protect me", etc. sounds a heck of a lot like we aren't leaving cradle any time soon, but we are definitely in for an adventure like nothing we've done yet, to defeat the swarm, to save the entity/god in the core, with the purpose of saving everything in existence from being erased by an ever devouring swarm.
So your argument for not opening the Core... is to open the Core and completely implying that it would make a ton of fascinating missions?
Does not compute.
I actually do want to see the Core open, but since the power that the Knights thought was in the Core is actually an entity (and I don't see them being so cruel as to harvest it) they'll have to find another way to get enough power to go home. The entity probably wont know how to do that, so we'd just be back where we started, but hopefully with a little more knowledge than before.
Ultimately, I say we go into the Core. Not for the power source, but for the Recon team. We don't know if they're really possessed by the Swarm. If they are, then why on Cradle would the Core open itself up to them? It makes no sense! Though, they sounded very delusional in the artifacts we recovered, but there's a logical explanation for that: They crash landed on a planet, with unknown enemies, no way to get home, surrounded by threats every waking moment. The most logical explanation is that the stress of it all simply got to their heads. Who wouldn't go insane from all this?
After i read the Echo Stones on the wiki for the first time, this is exactly what I was thinking.
Why has this been moved the Suggestions forum, anyway? It's speculations, not suggestions.
I think that the new stuff will include at least one of the following.
1) The upper hierarchy of the various kingdoms in the Clockworks (Devilite CEO, anyone?)
2) Swarm themed missions.
3) More to do with the Owlites
4) Some stuff about the two kingdoms that united and defeated Almire.
5) More about Core (I just call the entity in the Core Core.)
Well something to do with the skylark maybe? Honestly, we've been fighting for something we haven't even seen yet, but it might also be a good idea for the developers to keep it out of our view, just so the story can go on further without ending...
No, what else is there for us knights to do? We've slain the Snarbolax, we've mushed the Jelly King, we've destroyed the Twins, and killed the Lord Vanaduke who lied at the throne of the Firestorm Citadel. What else is there for us to do? Also no to Tinkizar, and whatever about the Crimson Order.
