Comp Specs

i7 950 @ 3.5ghz
GTX560ti (main)
GTX260 (dedicated physx)
18gb Trip Channel Memory
2x 500gb HDD in RAID-0

I play SK in STEAM.

Should be enough info but if you need more PC specs let me know.

The issues I am having both started around the same time so I assume they are related.

First I have random things in the game that end up being black squares with the word ERROR inside in red letters.

Second, ever since that started, whenever I go into a mission or even sometimes LD my FPS starts freaking out and jumping all over the place. When the FPS drops the game skips and it just keeps dropping and rising till it is unplayable or eventually SK says "Not Responding".

So far I have verified game cache, updated to the latest java, uninstalled and reinstalled SK 3 times.

I am out of ideas at this point so I hope someone here can help me out.

Here are some pictures of some problems.

Hope to get this fixed soon as I can't really play much. Thanks!

Got an Idea

Just try to Reinstall the game again, I think your SK has some missing Texture.files.

You can lock the framerates enabling v-sync or playing with the video drivers.

Blitherpaladin - Could you

Blitherpaladin - Could you please read my post before commenting. I reinstalled the game THREE times already. NO CHANGES.

Little-Juances - Locking frame rates does nothing to fix the problem. Thanks though.

Now when you say "uninstalled" did you completely wipe the folder clean? Even if you do a quick-uninstall via steam it leaves your RSRC files and a lot of other things.

This seems to be a case of corrupted textures/missing textures and they aren't properly redownloading. Verifying the Cache in this case doesn't check the RSRC Folder. In fact, I deleted an entire folder and the Cache verified the Game without even replacing the files.

Your Sprial Knights Folder is in ...\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Spiral Knights\ ensure that you COMPLETELY DELETE THIS FOLDER and then try reinstalling the game.

The Lag most likely comes from the game trying to constantly access textures that are either corrupted or are missing. When I removed a song (Back when I used to run FSC with my alts) I used to gain massive FPS drops on my alts and perfect framerate on my main, once replaced my Framerate shot back up for all clients. If anything, try updating your drivers.

Did not realize that it did

Did not realize that it did not do a complete uninstall. Deleted extra folders and Reinstalled and everything seems to be stable and back in order for the time being.

Thank you.

Any idea what causes this to happen?

Glad to see this worked.

As for what causes it to happen? No one knows and the most you can assume so much. Could be lag and missed a file, could be more, I don't know and as for as I know, no one does.

I've never had this happen in my two years of Spiral Knights so I just count myself lucky I guess.

How can you possibly tell that you have 180 fps? The game doesn't have any sort of counter, and there's no way you could tell that with the human eye.
