I've been having lot of issues with Spiral Knights compatibility mode, and all the topics I make about it it never gets fixed! My laptop has 2 nivida graphics cards, but it seems to have a real hard time with this game. I've provided some screenshots to help people understand whats going on.

EXHIBIT A: All Spookats

On the left we have a spookat with compatibility mode turned off, and on the right it's turned on, see how much smoother the texture is on the right?

EXHIBIT B: All Dust Bunnies

On the left we have compatibility mode turned ON, and on the left it's turned off, it's either black ears and whiskers, or no ears at all.

Here are my options to clarify: http://s15.postimg.org/n5nllia1n/options.png
I dunno what to do, it's tiny things like these that really get under my skin.

1. Check that you have the latest java version installed (7u40), and that SK is using it (you get this from the launcher.log file)
2. Make sure you have the latest driver version, and if they do it, try beta drivers
3. If all else fails, install the JDK of java, and see if that improves anything

that's all that I can help with.

Greetings,

That looks backwards. In the case of your Dust Bunny example the picture on the left looks exactly like what you'd get on an old device using Compatibility Mode. The right hand picture looks like normal operation. Out of curiosity what are you calling "ON" and "OFF" in the options? in your Options screenshot I see that the Compatibility Mode is set to "OFF".

I know compatibility mode lessens the graphics so I have it naturally turned off, when I have it turned off the Dust Bunnies lack ears, but when I turn compatibility mode on they get black ears and whiskers.

That doesn't explain the spookats, also do dust bunnies look different on tier 2?

Greetings,

The size of a Dust Bunny's ears change between Tiers. In Tier 1 they only have whiskers, in Tier 2 they have small ears and whiskers and in Tier 3 they have large ears and whiskers. However, the model is the same in all Tiers with different textures set to transparent values to lower the amount of unique resources required. When enabling Compatibility Mode the functions that help with transparencies are partially disabled, sometimes revealing the model placeholders.

Yes, you've got a correct looking Tier 2 dust bunny in the right hand shot.

As for the Spookats, they've looked like that longer than I can recall. It looks like Compatibility Mode is disabling some of the shading around their nose that is supposed to serve as a depth effect. The smoother appearance with Compatibility Mode is just an unintended side effect
