Weapon Specialist Gear is worthless if you're picky.

If you can't set your mind to specializing in a certain weapon group, don't. I constantly have these "oh I would do well with this this no wait this is better oh wait no this" feelings. You'l decide on something, and instantly realize how bad of a decision it is.

If you're picky about gear like me, you should probably avoid most of the weapon specialization based gear. It tends to close out variety and fun. You probably want to get armor, helmets, and shields for each defense type. Also interesting weapons are good to go for. Shard Squad goes for shards and underrrated stuff, and they're good.

Just wanted to throw this out there.

That's why I use the Chaos set.

Also don't you mean if you're NOT picky? I mean, picky people would want to stick to a single weapon type, and their pickiness would "close out variety"

Given how the defense mechanics work out in endgame, getting armor that's resistant to every damage type is a bad idea (the same does not apply to shields). That said, there's no reason why you have to use weapon-boosting gear either. T3 is not so difficult that those boosts are necessary (its actually a nice way to challenge yourself). The same goes for using weapons that are often neglected by most players (though keep in mind that there's usually a reason they were cast aside).

Out of curiosity, what armor do you use or are working toward? I'm using nameless hat and Seerus with Vog.

I don't know at this point. I already got my full Vog Cub w/ Barbarous Thorn Shield because screw it, might as well finish that instead of casting it aside and waiting even longer for Vanguard. Then I figured I should go pure gunner at Shadowsun. Ugh. I only have a Gunslinger Hat and Sunset Duster, and I feel like I should put it aside already.

Also, by armor that's resistant to every damagetype, I hope you didn't think I wanted Dragon Scale X Dread Skelly, because I didn't say that.

.. I'm probably going to get Shadowsun anyway in the end, and use trusty Gun X Sword.

@Battlegrinder: Why is it a bad idea to get an armor set for each damage type?

@OP: My suggestion if you're indifferent about weapons is to just make them on a whim. You'll usually figure out your favorites by 3*, and you can always go back and upgrade the rest if you have the spare resources. That's sorta the reason why the alchemy system got changed: Now you should have more orbs to craft more things with.

What I meant about the armor is that because of how hard the monsters hit in T3, getting a set to defend against every damage type won't help you much, because defensive armor itself is not very useful (at least compared to offensive sets).

Hmm

I say mix it up! I'm almost always sporting Volcanic Demo Helm and Vog Cub Coat. That way I have a bit of a boost in two weapon classes. After that I'll toss on some trinkets to round out my bonuses... Want CTR Max? Bomb focus trinket. Using a heavy sword? Quick Strike. Using a brandish? Sword Focus... etc.

This was among the lines of an unnecessary rant, but I suppose I learned something despite not much being said.
