Now that Steam OS is a thing, will we get a Linux Steam release?

It strikes me as strange that this has yet to happen since the game is made in Java and already runs on Linux, not to mention that Steam has been available for Linux a while as well. With Steam OS and Steam Machines announced, I'm finding this to be something worthy of questioning and discussion again.

SK isn't big enough, or desperate enough for Linux.

Yet it runs on Linux.
SK not being available on Steam Linux is one of few things making me not want to go Ubuntu on a laptop or something.

@ Krakob.

It runs because the programming is compatible. Steam was OOO trying to broaden the game's horizons. A steam linux release is unnecessary atm.

I was wondering about this too. What's holding it up?

A Steam Linux release would

A Steam Linux release would be very welcome for those of us that play Spiral Knights with an account that was made OR changed into a Steam Spiral Knights Account.

So whilst the standalone client that we currently have for Linux works, it means that I can only play with my weaker "Alt" account as I can't access my main character as it was created entirely under Steam.

@Above Yes you can. Click "Log in with Facebook" in the title screen and select "Log in with Steam" on the webpage. But I was still wondering why SK didn't port over too.

That sounds wacky. What if I have an account registered through Facebook, though?

I'd also like to add that I found something weird about SK running pretty okay when run through Wine because you run it through Steam but it actually runs on Linux because it can or something idk.
