Some people (myself included) like the look of the homecoming items more than the defender/caliber line items. I'm not sure why the recipes to upgrade them weren't released in the same event, but I for one would be very happy if the recipes would be made available at some point in the future, and see no reason why they shouldn't.
Let people upgrade the Homecoming items
I think this idea is great. Lots of people suggested making OCH purchasable with CE and it happened (Although lots of people disagreed, OOO made it happen). So +1.
I'm undecided on this. To an certain extent, I feel like you get what you got, and allowing you to upgrade undermines the veteran players who did earn their lionheart blades at the time. On the other hand, I can see how some players might feel they got shafted by being unable to upgrade. I don't really have a good answer.
The whole point of those items was to signify that you were a vanguard at the time... besides, reskins shouldn't have alchemy paths.
No, the point of them was "hey, thanks for logging on and playing our game. Here's a free item, have fun!". And besides, the battle stand has the "I was X rank at this time" role covered.
Why shouldn't reskins have alchemy paths? Most other games get along fine with craftable reskins, why would Spiral Knights be any different?
I left my stand at my old guild! I don't switch often, I've been playing for many years (Pre-snarby) and the one I'm referring to was only my second. I think that the swords are better representations of my achievement because they can't be traded, sold, or lost because of a lack of foresight.
I felt cheated. It was a one day event, and I didn't log on. The weapons look pretty sweet, but because I did not log on during that day, I didn't get my sword.
defeats the point of having the items in the first place. They may aswell have given us leviathans and aegises if they let people upgrade them.
They're just re-skins, you don't deserve the Lionheart if you weren't a Vanguard at the time. It was when you got some free gear that is very standard, nothing groudbreaking, just re-skins saying I was this rank at this time. If you really want a Lionheart, GO CRAFT A LEVIATHAN! Same thing for Exalted, make and Aegis. Promo items aren't for crafting... if you were there during the Homecoming and don't know this, then what game have you been playing? They're just shiny, get over it.
It is rather silly how you can't see any reason why this shouldn't happen.
Also, I believe the time period to log on to get the Honor items was a week or two, you weren't cheated, you just didn't log on.
Just to recap, THIS SHOULD NOT(and definitely will not) HAPPEN!
This is like begging for Groundbreaker sets to be available for everyone.
Groundbreaker isn't good for either as a costume or armor. Homecoming items fulfill both.
And groundbreaker rewards players who have been around since the (near) beginning. The homecoming items were more like, "Okay you logged in; here's your free items."
Homecoming items are a reward for players celebrating the guild hall update, just as groundbreaker is a reward for joining during preview. The argument you provided is just as valid as my prior statement.
Three Rings isn't obligated to offer them again.
If anything, we'd sooner see a Rose Regalia rerelease.
I agree with Whimsicality.
This promo was a one time thing!
It would take away from the significance of the weapons if any schmuck good get them.
There would be no way to prove you had it from the get go.
@Whimsicality. They did it once, why not do it again?
For one, it's free. We aren't -obligated- to get free things. But it's for a special occasion. What occasion is there now? To add on to that, every single piece of gear that can't be unbound or npc'd can't be upgraded. If you want a Levi so bad, make a Levi. Want the Lionheart blade? Well, tough luck.
I doubt it will happen again. Heavens forbid I get stuck with ANOTHER set of those paper weights.
No, Bits, you cannot. They CAN'T BE UNBOUND OR NPC'D. Luckily for me I only got the 4-star ones, so as I take my favourite items to 5-star I don't have items I don't use taking up space at the top of my Sword and Shield lists.
Had I known it would go all Excalibur on my inventory tab, I'd have avoided logging in. :( I'd trade it for the other Proto gear options if I could, though. I remember choosing my helm because it covered my knight's eyes with holes, but afterward that helm got updated so that the holes don't cover anything, making them ordinary, boring, sane holes. Had I known that would happen, I'd have chosen the trees sprouting from my knight's head.
I'm not suggesting that OOO hand them out to everyone or makes recipes to craft the 2* version available, just that they let players upgrade the ones they did receive up to whatever level they want. I'd also point out that the homecoming items are the only promo gear that isn't already at 5*, with the exception of the Ignition set (which was made purchasable shortly after the event), so saying that we shouldn't be able to upgrade them because you can't upgrade other promo items doesn't make sense. The only other argument to not let them be upgraded is "because they were meant to signify what rank your were at the time", which is a bad argument because NOBODY CARES.
OR an event where you get the opportunity to upgrade them so it's not there all year. How about that?
Meh, let's leave all the honor variants as they are visually, but bump their damage.
There, you'll be able to use them on T3, but the others will still be able to brag about their lionhearts being bigger.
By now, everyone that's still playing since last homecoming should have reached T3.
@Juances
DID SOMEBODY SAY DAMAGE BOOST!?
I could get behind that.

For the reasons stated by Martial and Whim.
The thing is, it's like a nostalgic thing, like:
Looking at a small sword, that you've had since you were in proto diapers; you've came so far.
True, but you don't have to upgrade it if you don't want too.
This has been suggested numerous times & I see no harm in it(unless someone does, if so, please explain). A simple, special Alchemy Machine that provides the 3-5* Honor Blade Line, located in the Hall of Heroes.
