With the new addition to be able to change your name, some to a lot of people who are long time users change their name slightly or completely and a lot of people will be looking at their friend list going "who the heck is this person?" a lot. So I was thinking maybe like how SK sends out a little mail saying you slot has expired (just an example) you could send out a little mail to all people on there persons friend list that "Knight A has changed his name to Knight B." or something like that. I mean, you can only change your name every 30 days so it shouldn't spam the mails of people. And maybe a mail sent out to all guild members when a gm changes their name in the same way. Just an idea I thought I'd throw out there.
I haven't been to a computer, so I haven't seen the new things yet, but taking a big guess here, have you checked your Social Tab? Maybe there's a notification there.
