If it is speed that you are looking for stick with the Cutter. Once you reach 4* take the Vile Striker and finally get a Dread Venom Striker. Unless you want to be a wolver. In which case take a Hunting Blade and then a Wild Hunting Blade. This is slower then the Dread Venom but more effective against beasts, gives you a little bit of range with every attack, and overall is one of best looking blades in the game.
If you want to stay fast but have some extra power, try getting a Vog Cub set with a swiftstrike. Then go with any sword other then heavy swords like the Gran Faust, Divine Avenger, and the heaviest chunk of knock back in the game: the Sudaruska. Brandishes would be very powerful and you could get quite a few combos out in a short amount of time with Vog and Swiftstrike.
If you aren't directly looking for an end game item keep the Winmillion in mind. It stops at 4* making it a lesser powered sword but that is made up in speed and amazing utility. It's basically for those swordies who are too lazy to switch to a handgun. But becareful with it. Both Cutters and the Winmillion can be risky to use around traps.
There are no "best swords". Which sword is best for you depends on the monster you're facing and the rest of your situation. You might find my detailed sword guide valuable.
