You're guessing spines like Snarbolax's spines, amiright?

Guess again!

This beast is based off the Mantis Shrimp, which may strike the water at such a high speed that it causes it to ripple rapidly, stunning and injuring its pray.

With that in mind...

Enter, the Shrimmer family! It includes the Shrimmer (T1), the Shrimmering (T2), and the Shrimmerest (T3).* These Elite-class** beasts are as beautiful as they are deadly. Their colorfulness is a warning to predators. These creatures fear nothing and will lay down (their) justice whenever they get the chance.

*These names are corruptions of shrimp and shimmer. Shrimmerest also is a nod to tempest.
**Alpha Wolvers are in the same class as Lumbers. Elite enemies are Thwackers, Mehca Knights, Greavers, etc.

Attacks:

  1. (All Tiers) Stab: A melee stab attack. Deals Piercing and can track targets during windup. (Like old Wolvers.)
  2. (Tiers 2-3) Ripple Strike: Stabbing the air with a claw, this creates a quick moving projectile which pushes, stuns and deals Normal damage. This projectile deals greater stun and more knockback the longer it travels, but deals more damage if it hits sooner.
  3. (Tier 3 only) Lunge: Once a Knight is stunned (either from Ripple Strike or some other source), the Shrimmerest leaps to the stunned knight. After leaping, the Shrimmerest's damage and speed are boosted but defense lowered. This attack has a moderate cooldown.
  4. (All Tiers, doesn't show up if the player is Soloing) Tail Slap: When surrounded by knights, the Shrimmer may spin, doing Normal damage, strong Stun, and high knockback. This attack can be used as the Shrimmer is flinching, so be careful when using swords!

Alternate names:

  • Poison: Stinging Shrimmer/Shrimmering/Shrimmerest
  • Fire: Shining Shrimmer
  • Freeze: Shattering Shrimmer
  • Shock: Paralyzing Shrimmer (Perhaps Shocking Shrimmer, to make a theme of names starting with 'S'...)

If a rare version would be implemented...

Secret Shrimmer (T3 only): Deals Deathmark on its attacks and may cloak. Drops a 5 star Mantis Ring trinket, which gives MSI: Low and Damage Decrease: Low. It's description would say, "A polished ring which has mysterious symbols depicting strange bugs. Although it looks smooth, it feels prickly."

Well, what'dya think?

I like it.

Good idea. Might be too strong in comparison to other beasts though.

Somebody has been watching their NatGeo.

So what? they look like gigantic shrimps? or Scorpions? i prefer scorpions. People would prefer to have Scorpion Armor over Shrimp Armor.

Pfft.

Autofire. It doesn't merely cause "ripples." Its pincers strike the water with the force of TWO THOUSAND NEWTONS!!! If humans could punch like that, we would basically have point-blank 150mm cannons attached to our arms. If the actual stab does not kill their prey, the shockwave will. They will tear apart food too large for it to eat in one or two bites by repeatedly striking the water with its pincers, the shockwave tearing the meat into bite-size pieces. They see in SEVENTEEN SPECTRUMS. The Mantis Shrimp is the most glorious animal in the sea.

Who knew a species of shrimp would be to our world what magikarp is to Pokemon?

@Arkate

Thanks for the correction. Of course, I couldn't figure out how to make the seventeen spectrums thing work in the game, so I didn't mention it. I was only really referring to the stuff that was important. The Wikipedia page is the place to go if anyone wants to know more.

@Canine-Vladmir

I haven't had TV for a while now. I learned about it from a friend a few months back and lately I've been trying to come up with an elite beast enemy. The mantis shrimp seemed unique, and I didn't want to do just a bear or something...

Bump...

I will draw this up. I want to see what it would look like.

Sounds Good, and also bad

I like this idea, but am also mourning the end of my "beasts are of negligible threat" attitude. Though Giving Beasts some ranged firepower would let the devs stop putting polyps in beast levels (serious, putting one pierce resistant enemy in the middle of bunch of pierce vulnerable ones is not cool).

Well, mixing it up does help add some variety, but I see where you are coming from. I mainly want a ranged beast to add some variety. Right now, no matter how fast wolvers may TP behind me, I can always dash away, making them unable to do damage to me. Beasts are the only ones who cannot use any ranged attacks.

I really don't know if they devs want to keep it like this or not.

Suggestion!

Since their attacks do seem to be rather diverse and thus, as the noobs call it, OP, I am in favor of making them have high hitpoints and be the Beast equivalent of a Lumber/Trojan. Ever since they removed the Slime one (Giant Green Jelly-splits into smaller ones when slain)...

The Beast equivalent of a Lumber is an Alpha Wolver. I don't think they have a Trojan, however. If something were to serve as a Trojan, it should either have a LOT of hitpoints or should be somehow difficult to kill on it's own. (Trojans and Giant Lichen Colonies are in the same class.) I think it's better that they are Elite enemies, which are small but difficult. (Like Greavers and Mecha Knights.)

I like this idea... sort of.

I feel that the lunge should be nerfed. Have it have a small "channel time" where it prepares the leap, so it is possible to escape this if you have just been smashed by a lumberer and have no shield remaining. Also... I feel like this has no place in this game. All the enemies we see are land-like animals, whereas the mantis shrimp exists mostly in the sea. Perhaps this could be a special type of enemy found in a special enviroment.

Not as trustworthy as wikipedia, but I like it better. ^_^
