I use steam and I've tried both normal and admin accounts. The game opens, gets as far as the login screen and then crashes/closes. Either way, the steam ad page opens up after it crashes the first time. I've also tried unchecking the login with steam button but it still crashes before I can put in my password. I'm currently going to try with my old AG account. I'll report back if it works. I recall another person having this problem but I can't seem to remember who.
Game crashes after opening
Steam client crashes but web client doesn't... could be corrupted files in the steam client...
(FOR WINDOWS USERS ONLY)
Having Black Screen issues? Wrong/Weird Images? Or crashes when entering specific areas? See any game errors?
Diagnosis : Corrupted File(s)
Solution : Redownload and Reinstall the WHOLE OF SPIRAL KNIGHTS
FOR STEAM USERS
- Proceed to Spiral Knights Folder, usually located in C:/Program_Files(x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Spiral_Knights/
- Delete this entire folder. The problem is not with the installation, but with the fact that you have corrupted DATA FILES. These data files come to you during downloading, and do not get affected by installation/uninstallation.
- REDOWNLOAD and REINSTALL the game through the steam store page. Try to ensure smooth and stable download speed, don't go and stream some video, take a break, it's not that long.
- If problem persists, contact SK support for further inquiries
Thanks man. I'll try that if my last attempt fails. I'm trying to copy over the web client files from my temp folder and merge it with the Steam client because they seem to have what each other needs.
I was able to log in and enter the ready room. Then it crashed again. Now I can't even get that far anymore. How do you file a support ticket without being able to log in?
There's been some steam overlay bugs that popped up recently, so I wonder if that's causing crashes for you. It's where the shift+tab combo doesn't always work... Anyhow, steam lets you delete your local copy of sk and verify it (right click it in your steam games).
Whoa okay I clearly don't know anything about steam. Thanks for that. So far it says 6 files failed to validate and it's trying to fix that. I'll report back. Hope to see you in-game soon.
So logging into your steam account on the website, then on the standalone version clicking log into facebook to log into steam (yes, you read that right) works for you? I'd say nuke your steam and sk-on-steam install.
1. Try to launch from the spiral knights website, through firefox (safari didn't work me)
2. Let it download and patch and everything
3. Go to the java website to test what version you have
4. Follow the oracle instructions on uninstalling java 7
5. Follow the apple instructions on how to re-enable java 6
6. Close browsers and try to relaunch
Steam - Follow above instructions and these additional instructions
1. Open two separate finder windows, and locate to "DRIVE NAME"/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines and grab the "1.6.0 jdk" folder and copy it.
2. Then on the other finder window, locate to "DRIVE NAME"/System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines and copy that folder to there and delete the existing "jdk1.7.0_25.jdk" folder
3. Validate the files on steam by going to your games library on steam, right clicking on Spiral knights, selecting properties, go to the local files tab, and then click "Verify Integrity of Game Cache"
So it was a video driver issue. I updated my driver so I could play youtube cleanly but that stopped the steam client of SK from working. When I rolled back my driver it suddenly started working against. I'm very curious how this worked because the standalone client worked fine with the updated driver.
@Kilaz
I'm on a PC with SK on my Win7 partition.
Armor Games seems to work fine. Steam issue maybe?
