I'm wondering how many of you guys play Spiral Knights with a controller. On top of that, I also would like to know if you play Lockdown with a controller.
I recently got one, and I've been having a blast.

Yes, I've been using it since December after I got my Receiver 2011.
Yes, I've been using it since December 2011 in Lockdown.
I been saving up money to build a PC, by next year it should be finish and....
I will be doing the whole "Big Picture Mode" with a controller. I always wanted to play Spiral Knight on the T.V. screen and I will be. Just have to wait -_-
I play with a controller, although I have some problems in LD when I have to shield cancel fast.
I feel like shooting myself in the head (but Rumia does it for me) when I play games on a controller.
Precision completely disappears.
I love to play with a controller, but I only play with bombs when using it... I also stopped when the battle sprites came out. Too complicated.
I prefer gamepads, although I'd say I can use both. I got a wired 360 controller back in August last year and won a spinning competition in my guild's birthday party the very same day. I got a Hunter prize box and sold it for 300k. Good memories!
Eventually, it broke. I set up my WiiMote to work with SK using PPJoy and sending input to PPJoy through GlovePIE. It was complicated and it was a hassle but it worked and was plenty of fun, except that I had some unidentifiable sources of IR in my room which screwed up my aim. Additionally, the sensor is made to be used at more than 1m distance.
After that, I gave mouse and keyboard an attempt. What I found to be the biggest advantage with this was the ability to actually aim guns. Thus, I started using Valiance which I had never been awfully good with before. However, I also found mouse and keyboard to come with a great disadvantage which is the lack of analogue movement. It really screwed me over with my Acheron+BTB as I need to have extreme control over my distance to the enemy. Another issue that was mostly because of my lack of skill was that I never really managed to master the act of weapon switching. I kept switching so that every other hit was BTB and every other was Acheron, no matter what. This was highly inefficient and meant I failed to hit countless times.
Nowadays, I roll with a DS4. It's one of the best controllers I've ever used, on par with GameCube controllers (which I've never used on PC). The analogues have sick precision and the triggers are super comfy and precise. With this controller, I've most certainly reached a new level of mastery.
That was all about LD, btw. So there's my answer. I use a controller for all of the game.
You don't attack faster, but your reaction time is better since you have analogue sticks for 360degree turning on the fly!
It won't be fixed. It's just how 360 controllers work if the devs choose to use DInput instead of XInput.
What's this bug you speak of? I don't seem to have it...
LT and RT are on the same axis. Thus, pressing both will cancel them out. It means you can't shield charge but it makes rapid shield cancelling so easy.
Perhaps you should show me in game, because I'm still not understanding.
It's not really possible to show in game. I could make a video, though. On the other hand, I'd need some recording tool because CamStudio just doesn't work for me.
What makes it so effective is that you can never push shield and attack at once, anyway. That, and pushing as little as possible will trigger it.
It looks like I'm not the only one who thinks GC controlers are better than PS3 controllers.
Anyways, I use mouse/keyboard.
I use a 360 controller. :B
laptops, man ... if I'm going to use a USB accessory it's going to be one I have handy, not shelling out more money for a mouse when I can use this controller on my Xbox, too, haha
when my normal game room was being renovated, i played sk on the tv. it was awesome!
I have been using a controller for a long time, and it is amazing. I have observed that with a controller, the game responds way quicker to your reaction than other options do. It makes you attack faster, but it is hard to notice unless you have the asi, and then you are very fast. Doing lockdown with a controller is very fun and easy with swording, bombing and going as a hybrid. Especially swording. I can hit people several times in succession within about 3 seconds, but my game pad is a madcat one so it is glitchy and bad quality. I only use a controller since I don't know how to use anything else. When I used to play with a non-glitchy controller I could get 9-11k each non-laggy match. However when gunning I am forced to use AT since aim is horrifying. I find the movements in lockdown much more fluid, and once you get into it, you are imdestructible. The clockworks is extremely easy, and you are faster than everyone. I have been using a controller for years now, I think even before anyone really used it. EDIT. If you gun with a controller don't use the sk option for controller, use something like Xpadder or Control MK. However, your reaction time isn't faster though.

what kind of controller do you need?
would a PS3 controller work?
if it needs a specific type, where would i be able to buy it?
You can't play with controllers can you?
I have an xbox 360 controller and I have been trying to use it for 2 months, it dosen't even respond, too bad SK dosen't want me to have fun.
I'm not sure why it's not responding, Ellthan, but I too have an Xbox 360 controller that I'm using. When I got it, I told SK to use default Gamepad controls. That didn't seem to actually do anything, and I had to actually go in and manually set the controls. If that doesn't help, then I have one question. Does this controller work with other games on your computer?
Which is why I hope to get a GameCube PC adapter so I can play Spiral Knights with a GameCube controller.
Wait, can you use a Gamecube controller on spiral knights? I have the PC adapter but I cant seem to get it to work ( i have it working properly when i play super smash melee tho ).
One of the reasons I started playing Spiral Knights was because it had controller support; it's at the point where playing without one disgusts me.
That being said, SK's controller support is a bit lacking, so I only use the native support for movement, and map all the button-stuff using Xpadder; this allows me to do stuff like shield-cancel with the triggers and have more than one modifier button.
As a swordsman, I dare say the vanilla trigger functions (single axis, LT and RT can't be used at the same time) are better for advanced swordsmanship. Still, shield charging is something I miss but I can live without it as I instead get flawless shield cancelling.

You can use console controllers to play the game, but you need a special program to be able to play SK with a control.
I play SK with my PS3 controller using MotionInJoy, it's a pretty solid program if you wanna use your 360 controller to play the game.
I use my Xbox 360 controller without any external apps. As long as you make sure it's plugged in BEFORE the game starts up it should be fine. (Also make sure you have it installed/downloaded the proper drivers first, of course.)
I've heard a lot of good about MotionJoy and I have a lot of experience with Xpadder.
I have heard that you attack faster on a controller
since you use a controller i just want to confirm, do you really attack faster on a controller?
