Weekly Forum Update

As much as the gunner update was anticipated, it's fallen short of a community-enforced deadline. That isn't bad, but we were left to speculation quite a bit and without mention of the reintroduction of our beloved Tortodrone the negative threads would be flooding in like a bad memory when you're trying to sleep at 2am. However that snippet of content made me realize how happy we all are to know what's being worked on. A weekly thread that tells the community what was worked on that week would make many of us happy.

Threads wouldn't have to spoil anything either, and if the content should remain unknown until announced, have little bits of text saying things like "added the bones to a super secret project". I believe those who get irked about lack of content or updates would rather see "we're adding something spooky to a new level!" than have something be announced and have no idea when it will be released. Give me puzzle pieces one at a time instead of the box to look at.

Community Managers would watch and reply to questions the best they can. They might stick around for an hour or two and check on it periodically throughout the week.

In short, hype up the community by having them put puzzle pieces together slowly over time, and at the same time create a feeling that we are being listened to by interacting directly with us within a single thread. Pictures, videos, or fragments are all fair game!

This would be a great suggestion. It would get the Spiral community closer the the devs and renew our confidence in their ability to cater to their fans. The only issue is that weekly updates might be a bit much. If it's taken them almost half a year to get to this point, they might not have all that much finished in just a week. Maybe push the updates back to maybe every 2 weeks or a month, that way we will be satisfied with each update instead of just getting 1-liners every here and there.

+5 for me, I SO want this to happen.

I know it's frowned upon, but I wanted to bump this thread to see if anyone else agreed that this would be something good to be added for the community. As this is actually a plausible suggestion, if we get enough conversation going about it the devs might decided to do it just to finally shut us up about how poorly we think OOO deals with updates.

gods ain't gonna help you, son.

the problem with weekly forum updates is that you get more and more hype on, which is precisely what they don't want to do right now. besides, after a while there wouldn't be much to talk about but "we are rebalancing/playtesting weapons"

Which is why i suggested changing it to monthly updates. It would give them more time to prepare something to display for us. It doesn't even have to be regular monthly updates, as long as we are being kept informed. Also, them delaying the update as much as they have has already riled the community up enough as it is, I can't see how putting our minds at ease by actually showing us that they are working on something would be a negative thing. Countless people are quitting SK because they think OOO isn't even trying to keep the game updated, and this would prove them wrong.

I was thinking it would be a nice thing when I did read it for the first time, but after reading all comments I changed my mind.

Actually we are already get informed about upcoming content and even these costume contents spoil some information here and there.

It is possible, that a weekly report with too much talk with players could end in an endless complaining about speeding up things, changing things, adding own opinions; obviously it needs only one careless answer from a GM to enrage the forum goers.

No, because the current information they do leak intended are enough.

true ... careless clues would cause the community to make noise of certain things (*whispers gunner update)

and by noise i mean negative comments

Weekly updates are spread enough

If the developers haven't done much, or don't want to tell us much, then I would much rather hear that along with "but we've got something big in store!" instead of silence. Remember when they released parts of the Skylark on social media? If they said they were working on something neat, and here's a part of it, wouldn't we all at get a little excited and speculate what is coming?
Even if they're just working on bugfixes, I'd love to know what bug they're working on. At the same time, I'd love to know what bugs they know exist but are either too complex to fix or are just not worth fixing. I suppose what I want most is direct interaction with Three Rings and their community so we can all be excited people together!

As for the complainers, they will always complain. Weekly forum discussions wouldn't stop that. The community pressures Three Rings into making content all the time, so instead of keeping us complaining about content, give us the reality of a business. We know the gunner update has art for it already, but we don't know what was delaying the actual production. When the deadline came, we assumed the update would be here, and it wasn't. Had we known before that Three Rings had been prioritizing Tortodrones, then I'm sure we might have been more willing to let the guns be delayed. Saying "we have the guns coded, but are working hard to rebalance every gun! This might take longer than we expected!" would be an example of business, and we know that the update is being worked on in a way that we all can agree is best.

A point I'd like to make, and I'm not sure if this was Fangel's original idea, but the updates would not be discussions but simply reports that OOO makes in the announcements section of the forums. Basically it would be similar to the recent announcement, where we got a little screenshot of the new torto boss. We already have discussion threads for already released updates, and I already know that the community would complain about anything not released yet in an attempt to sway OOO's decision making. So all I want is proof that they are actually doing something. There is no real need for discussion on un-released content, unless it's on the test server/feedback sub forum.
