So I'm not sure if this is meant to be in suggestions, but it's mainly up for discussion.

As for the topic at hand, I know many of you will either love this or hate this idea, with some in the middle. Anyways, drawing inspiration from the TF2 and Dota 2 Workshops, players/designers are able to create content that could potentially make it into the game. With ratings and enough publicity, the next big thing could just be a couple views/clicks/etc. away from making it into the game!

I've seen other threads about "OOO makes a lot of reskins and unoriginal content nowadays." While this many be true, I kind of think the introduction of a Steam Workshop would be extremely beneficial in which we, the community, bring our ideas into a sort of fruition. We can rate each others' content and hell, maybe make the new boss, level, or series of weapons and armor. And with there being Steam Workshop, it could bring in other talented designers from the TF2/Dota 2/many other communities as well.

I apologize in advance if I "stole" this idea from someone else. Please don't bother posting links to similar topics, this is an idea that popped into my head and figured maybe others felt the same, indifferent, or want to reject this idea. Let the discussions begin! :D

I have no mouth and I need to scream

This has been suggested before, as all levels right now become the same over time.

Its actually one of the many things that might help the game greatly too. However if it was implemented I hope OOO adds their own unique touch to how its made.

Oh yea!

Yea I mainly suggested thinking about how by having stuff being developed and possibly featured in the Workshop could bring in new players as well as maybe retain players. And this could potentially open up the testing server or make a way so that a designer can create an instance where they can go "Spawn_Sword_Scythe" and "Spawn_Mob_Wolvers_15". This would be done in such a way so that only when the player enters the testing area, are they allowed console commands and access to not only their own workshop weapons, but the entire communities so that any player can go "Oh! I liked that sword! I actually got to test it out before any big decisions were made!" or "I hated that... it needs to be rebalanced and range reduced..." stuff like that.

Awesome idea

This will do two things

1. Bring back a lot of older players and entice older aged players to design and submit their work. There must be many guys amongst us who know a thing or two about level design and editing. I wouldn't be surprised to see some awesome set pieces.

2. Make it easier on OOOs. They will have thousands of player made designs. All they have to do is add to them in their own unique way and hey presto they got themselves some nice looking fresh new content.

You mis-titled this thread.

You mis-titled this thread. Seems like just another complaint thread about promos and stuff. I think this is a great idea,
And you should re-title the thread to something along the lines of "How we as a community can help Three Rings release more quality content."

A big limitation to the Workshop concept is how much non-quality content there is to wade through, as well as great stuff that shouldn't be put in the game because the art style doesn't match. And adding functional items/weapons still has the same problems that the current content releases do with balance and bugs that the Devs would have to go through, or else we get winbillion that has ricochetting bullets and Triglav base damage. The art team seems to have plenty of original ideas for content, costumes and reskins, and these are the safest and easiest things for a community to submit.

That title, tho.

I thought at first that this was another complaint topic, because of the title, but let's start from my point of sight:

Steam Workshop is, or instead it would be, great, if used in safe hands, what I mean is that it isn't really possible to find a good creation for SK in there... I pretty much quote everything that Parasthesia said, apart from the fact that "Devs stuff are the safest stuff to submit". It is generally true, not all the times but it is, but yeah, instead of user creations in the Steam Workshop, it is safer.

Title change!

Alright I changed the title of the thread!

@Paras: That is where having the capability for having all players have access to use them in a test comes in handy. I may be able to create a Winbillion, but when I release it on the Workshop, everyone has access to it and people can rate it. I think by organizing content based on Ratings and Time Released should help organize content so stuff people don't approve of get sent down to the back (With a requirement to at least explain why it did so poorly). Meanwhile, good quality stuff gets rated up and featured on the front page.

@Urf: I didn't consider the introduction of malware (viruses/trojans/etc.), but there would (hopefully) be a safety mechanic that scans for files that have been tinkered with.

I think the biggest potential that this has is in a level editor, which would truly put Spiral Knights up there with the best!

@Fehzor
Something I have consistently asked for.
Some of the people have so much time on their hands they could spend on making levels and lore for those levels.

@Seoul-Reaper I wasn't saying

@Seoul-Reaper
I wasn't saying about viruses... I was saying about people that make content but make it badly.

Genius

I just got accepted into a High school that specializes in game design and i feel that could help give me a jump start before 9th grade. It would also give OOO game devs a chance so relax and drink their cofee while viewing our ideas. Great idea!!

I think a Level Editor would

I think a Level Editor would also be a great facet to this idea.

So summary of discussions

So overall, having Workshop content (weapons/armor/etc.) and a level editor could/would make it easier for Devs. Sure, they can still release their content or if enough content is being made that's of extremely good quality, they could just outsource work to other content developers and OOO just has to play-test the new content and then approve/implement the content into the games.

Ok, I have suggested this but no worries. Here are a few things I think should be implimented to this.
-You get 3 months notice(or more) to create ideas until you turn them in to be judged both by the community and OOO.
-You use a program that has these features:
a.It has a preview server where ideas are tested. (To report bugs and glitches and a GM will explain to the owner how to fix it, or fix it themselves.)
b.It has a model editer where you can edit levels and add different things. You can also change the way the body moves(This would be for different effects like how the body moves in a sword combo, or new emotes.)
c. It has a model maker where you can make new models (So like a new enemy or ally)
d. It has a spiral spy like interface but much more complex (Comes with a guide of course)
-People are allowed to join preview servers if the owner is ok with it. (It comes as a different program so no lag, and the program won't cost money.)
I think these would be nice for this kind of idea.
