Poison Status revamp

Rather than being hit or miss for having ~25% less defense and ~50% less attack, I believe Poison should be implemented in stacks. Each Poison attack would increment the amount of Poison Status an entity has by a set amount. The amount of Poison stacks equates to the degree of poison effects.

Poison status has a base time of 3 seconds, which is increased by half of the Poison stacks on an enemy (up to 30 stacks), and then beyond 30 stacks, the square root of the excess stacks is added to the duration. After 30 stacks, poison is not any more effective and gains less duration.

EDIT: What if instead of Poison stacks affecting over a duration calculated from the amount of stacks, Poison stacks effectively affect entities up to 30 stacks, and get removed over time? Say, remove two poison stacks per second?

The effects of Poison will be linear.
At 0 stacks, healing has 100% efficiency
As the stacks approach 10, healing deals 0% damage, attack reduced by 20%, defense reduced by 10%
As the stacks approach 20, healing deals 100% damage, attack reduced by 40%, defense reduced by 20%
As the stacks approach 30, healing deals 200% damage, attack reduced by 60%, defense reduced by 30%
i.e.: At 25 stacks, healing does 150% damage, attack reduced by 50%, defense reduced by 25%

Swords:
Vile Striker: 2 per regular hit, 5 per charge attack hit
Dread Venom Striker: 3 per regular hit, 10 per charge attack hit
Obsidian Edge: 10 per charge attack/tentacle hit

Guns:
Obsidian Carbine: 2 per bullet, 10 per tentacle hit
Toxic Catalyzer: 1 per bullet, 5 per charge attack explosion
Virulent Catalyzer: 2 per bullet, 10 per charge attack explosion
Biohazard: 3 per bullet, 15 per charge attack explosion
Toxic Needle: 1 per bullet, 1 per charge bullet
Blight Needle: 1 per bullet, 2 per charge bullet
Plague Needle: 1 per regular hit, 3 per charge bullet

Bombs:
Toxic Vaporizer: .1 per tick
Toxic Vaporizer MKII: .2 per tick
Toxic Atomizer: .4 per tick
Venom Veiler: .5 per tick
Obsidian Crusher: 10 per explosion

These are the raw possible Poison Stacks, with nothing about the poison defense of entities.

Thanks for reading, my brain is fried.

Sounds interesting. An issue I see with this is though that poison currently lasts a pretty long time (duration is roughly equivalant to , and working your way up to a stack of 15-20 may rarely occur before the enemy is dead.

But what about poison damage you receive?

As someone who uses Chaos quite often, I want to see this massacre me for using it since there is currently little-to-no drawback to using Chaos save for in Shock stratums where you have increased spasm time. As is, 14 seconds of poison is already pretty harsh, but not too bad all things considering I can just hop around until it wears off. How quickly do monsters stack their poison? How is our poison resistance a factor in this? Etc etc you get the point.

Stack percentage modifier.
For example, if you have -1 resist, then every 10 stack of poison will count as a 11 stack.
-2 resist will cause every 10 stack to count as 12 stack, and so on.
Positive poison resist would work in a similar but linearly decreasing manner (10 stack counts as 9.2, 8.45, 7.75, 7.1, 6.5, 5.95, 5.45, 5, 4.6, 4.25, 3.95, etc)

Either that, with the poison strength being affected, or the duration in a similar fashion:
-1 resist increases duration by 10% (3.1 seconds on initial hit, 0.55 second increase with each additional stack applied)
-2 resist increases duration by 20% (3.2 seconds on initial hit, 0.60 second increase with each additional stack applied)
And ditto with positive resist:
+1 reduces duration by 8%, +2 reduces it by 15.5%, +3 reduces it by 22.5%, +4 reduces it by 29%

Hmmmm

@Hexzyle
Well I feel that the lack of being able to reach 30 is sort of the point; it's the maximum w/ 200% healing damage. The main reason one would get up to 20+ stacks would be due to having a healing enemy or a boss, which will pretty much guarantee 10+ stacks.

@Dibsville
In general, I'm not sure what is a good scale for the poison stacks to the duration of poison. I just hurriedly slapped something together. I added that square root of stacks over 30 because things like the Plague Needle could infinitely extend the poison duration under a linear scale.
As for receiving poison... eh... maybe 4, 8, 12 per tier. The main problem is what to do with wisps/poison miasma/poisonous oil and poison resistance...

@Hexzyle
I think that instead of affecting the overall stacks on an entity, resistance should affect every application of new stacks. This would make poison immunity work.

Maybe... instead of having stacks add duration, stacks are removed over time...

Well, I don't have enough time at the moment to ponder over the numbers and other possible implementations :/

+1, but what about enemies like Drouls and Rabid Smarby? Will poison be applied if I smack someone with a single DVS hit?

As for your first question, I am unsure what would be a good balance for Poison enemies and Rabid Snarbolax. As poison is essentially 100% proc rate now, and I don't know the strength of enemy poisons, I'm not really sure what are good values of poison stacks per hit...

As for your second question:
"Dread Venom Striker: 3 per regular hit, 10 per charge attack hit"
"The effects of Poison will be linear.
At 0 stacks, healing has 100% efficiency
As the stacks approach 10, healing deals 0% damage, attack reduced by 20%, defense reduced by 10%
As the stacks approach 20, healing deals 100% damage, attack reduced by 40%, defense reduced by 20%
As the stacks approach 30, healing deals 200% damage, attack reduced by 60%, defense reduced by 30%"

Still unsure about excess stacks.
