I was excited when I saw this, when I read node 97695, when I found out Radiant Fire Crystals had made their long-awaited and triumphant return to the community of Spiral Knights, and I literally jumped for joy in excitement over this fact.

First thing I do when I log on is rush to the clockworks to finally heat my obsidian gear that I've waited so long for, and luckily, the party finder popped up a guy at the D23 Terminal, and I was ecstatic. So I get to the terminal and get on the elevator for D24, it's a compound so not expecting much, and I get shining fire crystals. "It's the first depth in stratum six, some Shining Fire Crystals are to be expected." I thought to myself. then I found out the next depth was an arena, and I thought I hit the jackpot. On to D25, I get through finishing the level, and after opening all of the 30+ boxes, I still got nothing but shinings, not a radiant in sight.

So I go on the wiki page, and see that "It can be found as loot in the Clockworks at depth 27 and deeper." It is at this point I figure out that my dreams have been dashed, my hopes of radiants ever going back to the way they used to be will never happen.

And if this is a glitch in the change, thank heavens intentions were right and we'll get the old radiants back, but this is just another dream.

So thank you for giving me hope, and immediately crushing it too.

Edit by GM: Please keep discussion about the release in the appropriate discussion thread. Thanks!

Did they say they reverted it

Did they say they reverted it back to previous drop rates?

No.

They just said increased drop rates in earlier depths, which means D26 and bwlow. Moderate increase, but notthing to pull your pant over you know?

Yes, earliest sign of rads

Yes, earliest sign of rads appears to be 26 at a better rate than finding them at d27 previously.

back then, finding them before d28 was super lucky.

It should be significantly easier to grind for them now, but you're right. They should drop from D24 onwards.

Certainly better than nothing though.

Can definitely confirm D26.

Was a lucky run, but I got 21 Radiants in an FSC run, between d26 and d28
That potential should speak for itself lol.

Definitely much better than before.

Prior to today's patch, you'd still be lucky to find them on d28 casual boxes. Only boxes that were after party buttons would have a chance at radiants, and that would require carefully selecting which d28 to run. You'd end up picking an arcade gate based on which d28 options were available.

I frequently found myself running a d28 Treasure Vault and getting only Shinings. About 50% of the time I'd get Radiants, and it was averaging about 6. It did not make up for the time spent speed running to the core.

Now you get them at d26-28, and as luck would have it, the new gate that is here has high box value depths (clockworks (which may contain Danger Rooms) and Lichenous Lairs). I can get 6 per depth quite reliably, often more. It's a good compromise without having it spoonfed.

So, it's still a grind but most certainly a more manageable grind.
