I have no mouth and I need to scream

Knyack knyack knyack.

If you want an item, you literally have to become a hawk from the discovery channel. Take your eyes off your prey and it's gone in a instant.

Very short is 5 minutes, but constant rebidding resets the timer.
Short is an hour-four hours i believe. I may be wrong on this one.
Long is 12 hours and below.
Very long is two days and below.

The auction house can be very cruel sometimes, always remember this.

Cheers.

Make 1 and only 1 bid for the maximum price you are willing to pay.

Bidders gonna bid, so if you can't beat 'em and don't wanna join 'em, accept it and move on.

Bump up an item's price early on. The longer it spends at a low low price (like below 5,000 crowns for a 20,000 crown item) the more people will notice it and bid on it, putting it into their "recent bid" list.

For the same reason, that's why it's also a pretty good idea to start auctions of items at 1 crown. (provided you know that it's in high demand and it will sell)

Also, never bid on items that have the same price listed for the minimum bid and the Buy option. Those people failed Auctions 101.

Ummm what?
So, you're advising players to spend significant amounts of their game time stalking the AH to make sure they win that item they're bidding on instead of paying a premium for the comfort of getting it now without hassle if such an option exists? Most of the time when they exist, items with the same buyout/bid price are priced at a reasonable price relative to what the bids on the current supply of those items, otherwise, no one in their right mind would ever buy them. Yes, you can save cr by using your way, but instead you're paying with your extra time as a trade off. I guess it depends on which you value more, but I wouldn't condone those who value their time more as having failed Auctions 101.

As relevant to the topic, once you decide the value of the item to you is, if the difference between that price and a buyout price listed is less valuable to you than the approximate amount of time before the auction ends, the buyout is a perfectly reasonable option. Often this is not the case, in which case relying on strategies that others here have given are your safest bets.

Let me clarify here

I'm not saying that the person looking at those listings is the one that failed, but instead that the one who created them did. If you create a listing where the initial bid price is the exact same as the buyout price, you've stepped out of the realm of auctioning completely: all you've basically done is set up a sale listing for that specific price, because obviously no one's going to place a bid higher than the buyout price. That's fine if that's what you're going for, I guess, but for an actual auction situation, you want the buyout price to be the maximum price you could ever expect someone to pay for that item, or at least the maximum amount you'd find reasonable to receive in the time your auction is listed for. You then set the minimum bid somewhere below that, often well below, in the hope that the bidding will push the price up to as close to the buyout price as possible, and in the best case that someone will pay the full buyout price. If you go on eBay right now and find some auctions with a "Buy It Now!" option, I can guarantee you that this is how they'll be set up.

I mean, I'm not saying that people should obsessively hover over an auction to try and squeeze out every last Crown, but I think one can usually get better results than settling for an auction listing like that. In my experience, the items I've seen listed in that fashion are priced well to the high side of what I'd ever consider paying for them, and often far above. Plus they kind of defeat the whole purpose of an auction...at that point, you might as well be spamming your buy offer in the trade channel in Haven.

Yawn.

Yeah, I can spend my time idling in Haven spamming the trade chat with 30 second intervals. This would cost me up to 2 hours of my life and there is a chance I won't sell my wares. My spamming could as well make other people overlook the other trade offers they would be interested in. It is boring too.

Instead I put my Enamorocks at the Auction House for 12 hours and go do something productive. This costs me a few hundred crowns -which I gain back as soon as an Enamorock sells- and a minute. What I gain is that 2 hours I would spend trying to sell my stuff, and my offer is available for much longer. Auctions failed? Start a new one.

I don't care if people want bidding wars, it is not my job to provide that to them. I am concerned on how much money I can get off their pockets with the least possible amount of time and effort spent. Customers I am looking for are not people who are greedy, have lots of time and maybe crowns, but people who are impatient and have lots of crowns. Auction House is the most reliable way for me to sell my wares to those people.
