Yes, I know this is better suited for the Steam forums. The problem with that is that it requires another set of usernames and passwords and I have not even set up my Steam profile yet, much less gotten used to some of its finer points.

This has been a problem plaguing me from only one computer, a laptop. I try to login to Steam and get the following error message:

Steam - Error
Could not connect to Steam network.
This could be due to a problem with your internet connection, or with the Steam network. Please visit www.steampowered.com for more info.

I know for certain I have a stable internet connection, that Steam's servers are available, and that I can login to Steam through other means. It's the Steam Client Bootstrapper that gives me this error. I used to be able to get around it by right clicking and opening "News", "Store", etc. during a transition moment but that no longer works.

After days of searching this is the most relevant support page I can find: http://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=6776-MYXU-0480

My current ideas for fixing this are:

  • Directly connecting my PC laptop to my Mac router (as soon as I find the right cord...)
  • Finding a way to properly connect and edit the settings on my Mac router

Can anybody help me? Did I post this in the right section?

Greetings,

Could you please clarify, is this the Steam client on that gives you this error or is it when you attempt to log into Spiral Knights installed through Steam?

Just the Steam client

It is when I try to start Steam itself in any method. It has nothing to do with Spiral Knights specifically, I was just sick of it and asking for help. Sorry if this is in the wrong place. Looking back on it now, I definitely misunderstood the sub-header.

In the meantime I've found a workaround, but it's still showing me that error sporadically. If I connect my computer directly to the router and then fiddle with the laptop's wireless connection I can usually sign in. I fear it will, for reasons unknown, work less and less as time goes by.
