Set "preferred item" pick up

PROBLEM: A rather strange challenge I find myself tackling is tossing relatively useless pick up items / spamming them to make room for items I want.

The most common scenario is when I end up with a surplus of pickups I generally don't have use for (vials, status orbs) and want to make room for something that dropped recently (pill, remedy mostly). This requires pausing from fighting monsters and just running around spamming the item hot key to use them up really quickly or throwing them away in advance knowing they'll just cause problems later on.

This becomes problematic when I encounter a crucial moment where I am being swarmed and the floor is loaded with pickups that largely don't interest me or are actually ineffective in the scenario I'm in (ie. fire status orbs / fire vials while in a room full of Oilers) and throwing them away also requires some care to not make the situation worse. All when I am burned and there is a remedy sitting somewhere that I can't pick up because there are too many other drops around.

This wasn't so bad when pickups were limited to just vials and the occasional mecha knight, but with the addition of artillery, status orbs, and recon flare (and the inability to throw away items without using them), it's made things worse where danger rooms / arenas are 50/50 fighting monsters and avoiding/tossing pickups.

Basically, I just want to auto-pick up items I always want (pills, remedy) and selectively pick up other items that are situationally useful.

SOLUTION: Set "preferred item slot" gray out options where you reserve a slot for a particular item. Then add a hotkey to allow you to turn this off on the fly to pick up anything nearby (similar to auto-target toggling).

I have a similar idea here.

But +1 anyways.

oh yeah i agree

+1. This is a problem on boss stages, where you're looking for a remedy capsule and you find one, and waste time throwing things away.

Thanks for the support. I believe this is a simple change that would align the game towards more focus on the dungeon crawl and less on the pick up management aspect, which takes up a lot of time given that, frankly, there are many pickups in the game that are too situational or rare (artillery strike, recon, and mecha knight, for example)

In general, I would like to see status pickups limited to ones that would be more helpful for the specific theme level I'm playing in (fire vials in ice level) or at least eliminate a status vial/orb from dropping in the same theme floor (no ice vials in an ice floor). But this is a much more radical change than being able to set preferred pickups in advance and not having to worry about picking up items you don't want.

Or they could just let us drop them with the mouse like we used to be able. But I agreed that it is silly when we need to pick something up and have to first throw 3 vials full of deadly toxins across the room angrily.

good idea, +1

On the way you suggested it, it would work since it doesn't change the droprate at all.
