Just a idea that popped on my mind.
The difficult is related on increasing the enemies HP and changing some aspects of the damage that them applies.
So, instead of changing the enemies, what would be changed is the knights, changing the restrictions.

What you mean with that?
Instead of 2 weapon slots on elite, you have just one weapon slot. The same for trinkets.
On advanced, everything stay the same.
On normal, you have 3 weapon slots. The trinkets stay the same.
Maybe reduce or increase the health based on difficulty level could be a change too.

How did you get that idea?
I was remembering how other games change your character of the game based on the difficulty level selected, like Mickey & Donald 3 for SNES and Megaman X8 for PS2. So, I thought that the same could be cool to Spiral Knights, because there's more challenge on doing a level with just one weapon and lower health than just changing the enemies' HP and attacks.

Just an idea that I want to share with the community.
So... Thoughts? Ideas? Discussion?

P.S: I'm not sure if Mickey & Donald for SNES have a difficuly level system. I don't remeber.

Having less weapon slots drastically reduces the strategies that the knight can employ. Perhaps limiting the number of extra weapon slots would be better?

Elite: 3 max weapon, 1 max trinket

Though I'd rather not OOO do this, because it kind of goes against OOO selling weapon slots etc. and no one plays on normal once they've got the hang of the game.

@Fehzor

Do you mean strategies that knight can employ alone?
Because in a party everyone can use one weapon each based on a strategie.

Though I'd rather not OOO do this, because it kind of goes against OOO selling weapon slots etc. and no one plays on normal once they've got the hang of the game.
Maybe allow people to buy 3 weapon slot?

I'm thinking on changing the restrictions just the trinkets and health, something like allowing people to use trinkets on normal.
Normal: 1 trinket unlocked for free, higher health.
Advanced: 0 trinket unlocked for free, normal health.
Elite: 0 trinket unlocked for free, lower health.

How I said, it just popped from my mind. It will need some reform yet.

Hm.

I don't know. I don't really feel that the game needs additional Artifial Difficulty (variety of HP/Damage between difficulty) , more than what it already has. If I want to play more of that, I'll just do Depth 28 in proto gear and laugh as I can't kill a single monster; determining what a player can and can't do won't resolve the issue that there's no real difficulty in the game. Zombies will forever be predictable, Gorgos will forever be swaying hackers with a pixel-thick hitbox, and Kleptolisks will always steal you Health Capsules. Always. They're mean.

What I do feel, is that this game needs a revamp on AI behavior. Gremlins and Devilites are considered the hardest to fight, not because of how hard they hit, but because of their AI; they dodge, they attack, they retreat, they heal, they strategize (somewhat); something neither undead, construct, beast, nor jelly do (save Lichens, but they're still not that smart).

Giving a player a harder AI to fight is a challenge. Giving the same easy monster more health nor removing a player's weapon choices isn't.

i can't recommend to change the existing difficulty system like this (I do pretty like it), but I suggest adding some 'additional handicaps' which could be activated before starting run.

These handicaps will offer you additional... uh well crowns, rarities, whatever, just something additional.

Handicaps could be (as mentioned):
-Amount of available weapon slot decrease
-Amount of available trinket slots decrease
-Max health decrease
...but also:
-Increase of received damage
-More challenging monster AI
-Natural stati penalties
-Natural 'defense down' curse
-Natural negative UV-effects (standart charge time increase: low, that would require an actual Maximum!+1 to compensate, which leads to more people rolling, which leads to more money for OOO)
-Lower heart drop rate
-Less usable stuff (Vials)
-Lower Vitapod drop rate
-Limitated or no use of Dash
-Limitated/no use of Bash
-Limitating Battle Sprite usage
-etc. :)

Thanks guys.
I thought that, maybe, giving restrictions to the players the game could be more challenger to the players.
I'll think on it with more depth and back with a best version of my thread.
